Cox Engine of The Month
Cox Pickup Tube Size

Cox Pickup Tube Size
I was sitting at my desk today looking at my Space Bug Jr. I just happened to gaze at it's version of a pick up tube and wondered what would happen if it were to be bored out. Does the size of the pick up tube change performance?

Re: Cox Pickup Tube Size
Good question - I wonder if it would have the same effects of enlarging the venturi.....
Re: Cox Pickup Tube Size
I imagine like everything else there is an ideal range.

I'd just trust LeRoy's judgement and leave the engine alone. There would be little to be gained by "messing" with it.

I never had any intention to (As You Say) "mess" with my ONLY Space Bug Jr. If I ever get a second one (which I will someday) I will attempt to experiment with it. Why not? Just because they are old does not exempt them from being hopefully improved.

I believe it would reduce the suction and therefore fuel draw.
If you want more fuel to go in run it richer you will get the same effect.

That is what I thought it would be like. It was the only result I could think up.

Re: Cox Pickup Tube Size
You would have far more luck enlarging the venturi but on a space bug please do not!
Re: Cox Pickup Tube Size
Nah. The venturi on the Space Bug is already pretty large. I do not think it could change much.

Got the engineering bug, do ya? A little fluid dynamics, toss in some pneumatic action, all sorts of cool angles involved,,, Good for you. Stay curious.
