Dam OhBee, i don't think if you hadn't mentioned it anyone would know it was a screwup as you call it. I think it looks great. i don't have the patience for detailed work. Hope you get to feeling better. Take care.

Another way to look at it is character, failing that though it will eventually screw itself into the ground and at that point who cares if the decal ended up in the right place?
Maybe you should build some Cox powered snow vehicles, that way you have something to do year round.

The decal is positioned exactly where I wanted it...but i didn't realize it would lose all its contrast over a darker paint! Once its down...its down!...

Very Nice indeed , I think all that fussing with detail paid off it has a nice old school look to it and the colors sand out too .

As professional a job as I have seen here. Nice tight fit elevator to horizontal stab, exit hole for the control rod is perfect as is the covering. I even like the colors and detailing. Hang a nice new engine on it and your there.

Bravo!
She looks fabulous OhBee. Can you give a quick run down on your finishing system?
Do you know the model's weight at this point?

Re: Dope free build
Thanks guys. No clue on the weight Jim...this ain't a fully equipped shop,i have no scale.
I have no hardware to mount engine or tank, and pretty much gave up on finding anything around here.
Atached tissue with Deft clear laquer. Then 6 coats of Deft clear. Considerable time for curing between coats cause I can only get the temp up to 66° in the basement....Then 2 coats of Rustoleum ultra white primer...followed by 2 coats of Rustoleum ultra Key Lime green. Finally 2 coats of Minwax clear gloss polyureyhane. Biggest [bleep] off is the unavoidable dust in my wings clear coat. No way to control dust in basement when furnace kicks in. Really burns me!

Re: Dope free build
That is a fine job with DocSpan...aka Tidi "everyday crepe" exam table paper.
I can pass along the two most applicable threads from StuntHanger as PDFs (or links for SH members, membership required to view there now) if anyone wants them.
Anyone want to drop about $12 for a roll? If we can twelve guys together, we each get 125 feet of the stuff. If more jump in, I'll jump out. I bet I still have 105-110 feet on my roll. If life can slow down a bit, I hope to cut my roll down to closer to 85-90 feet (several 32"-36" WS planes to build soon).

Found the stuff

Wish I was younger, I'd be in. 125 feet would last me a life-time starting in my 20's. If OB's plane is an example it's marvelous stuff but as finished I would be worried about weight. Weight be darned, it's a winner.
Gotta ask, reread the entire thread and my old eyes must have missed who made it or what it is. Sterling Ringmaster sorta fits but there are major differences. What engine would you hang on it?

Great stuff!.. Superior to anything I used "back in the day. If I can't screw it up nobody can. I really don't think it is that heavy weight wise. The framed and covered wing before my finish felt very light. The random cross fibres in it make it quite tough! Durability was most important to me.

Thanks OB I remember now. Right there on the decal.
I was thinking a class A or B engine. Something in an Enya or OS .09 to .20 out there would do well and look good. Nothing wrong with a TD though, especially if you have one on the shelf.
I think it's going to take courage on your part to drill into that beautiful airframe. Some here prefer blind nuts, I'm not a fan, ugly in my view. A nice set of nylocks, washers, and standoffs would do well. Whatever you select I'm sure will be fixed first-rate.

Re: Dope free build
OhBee,
How much fuel do you really want to carry?
Tanks below. 3/8 oz matches your dimensions.
1/2 oz is 39 mm long, 16.7mm tall, 29.3 wide.
The next two are 3/4 oz tanks.
Top feed is 55.4x17.4x24
End feed is 54.8x14.6x29.1
The last tank flew on my BHM Mosquito. It is custom built. I show it to lead into your tank shape. If you aren't stunting, then tank shape can be manipulated to your satisfaction.
How much room do you have between the wing and the engine backplate?
Then it becomes a simple matter to build the tank to your ccs and plumb the tank to take advantage of the shape.
That tank used the muffler pressure line to fill, and once both tanks were filled, the mufflers got reconnected.
Pick a tank...I'll send it up. Or, let's do some math and put a tank in it that is custom built. Keep your next cereal box so you can experiment with tank sizes and just cut until it barely fits.

Re: Dope free build
Jim...the tank that I show mounted is as far back as I can get it without hitting the landing gear mounts. I would think the 1/2 oz. shown below the 3/8 should be plenty. Looks like the best fit! Thats why I was wondering how much fuel these things would burn compared to a babe bee.

That's a whole lot more plane that a PT-19 OB. It's that 24 inch span that got me thinking a slightly larger engine.
