OhBee,
I know we talked on the phone briefly, and I've sent stuff up before. Yet I never stored your contact info, always expecting to find it in email/PM.
I checked.PM, email, phone logs for incoming...about to check outgoing.
Please PM or email PH/address so I can lock this in to the phone for good.
RSV Bob,
I really like that plane! Did I tell you that when you first displayed it for us?

OhBee, give me a break with the lack of skills nonsense. You are like the guy that shows up at the pool hall saying you haven't ever really played but would like to give it a try and then leaves with everyone's money and the pink slips to their cars! Your workmanship is superb. Wow! Great job.
I switched over to all iron-on many years ago and it is possible to get a terrific finish. And you would definitely learn, but it does look like you have it all figured out with paint, and models like that are works of art that are a joy to behold.
Great job and thanks for sharing!!!

Re: Dope free build
Ya...no flying of anything here for awhile ..winter in Minnesota! ...Might be spring by mid June! Not a fan of cold and snow!
TCLyon......They were long dormant skills! My last build was in 1967!. ...Wasn't sure I had them OR the dexterity to pull it off anymore. Took nearly a year to finish with clinic appointments and having to move in May. ....not to mention I'm a fussy perfectionist. Drive MYSELF mad with it sometimes!
Got a lot of help from the folks on here,as I had forgotten most everything from my youth. ...now if I can just retain some if it! I made some boo boos....

Re: Dope free build
One thing I must mention.....This kit and the engine were gifted to me by our old buddy Fred! ....along with a bunch of other stuff that is going to get put to use!... Without Freds generosity this never would have been possible....I'd still just be dreaming about getting back into the hobby. And of course lots of help from everyone else...you all know who you are! Hope Freds been following some of this...he may have created a monster!.....More to come,.....but I'll need a bigger build board!

I would ogle it for a while before putting it in the air. Hang it in an aggressive posture on fishing line next to your others and watch it float in the breeze.
Thanks TCL. Check your PM's.

OhBee,
Please post these pics on RCG. There is a thread over there concerning DocSpan, so they should see just how good this can paper can be.

Re: Dope free build
I dunno.
Orange for out, Pink for pressure, Green for go-juice.
The pink and green can be left long and bent for a pseudo-uniflow,
or shortened and connected to pressure, and fill capped. Or any other combo.
Consider this tank is for OhBee's Wizard. By his own description, this plane won't fly inverted or make abrupt moves in the air.
The outboard/open side will be a prism on the side of the cuboid base tank. This places his fuel line going to the spray bar without going out the front wall of the tank. The angled side wall will feed fuel to the NVA regardless of the fuselage's relative yaw from tangent. If this plane turns in or out enough to interrupt fuel flow, OhBee is having other problems.
Right now it is 3 cm tall 4 cm long and 1 cm wide at the main tank body. If I'm right, that is 12 ccs right there. The prism stands out an additional cm, so add another 6 ccs. 18 ccs is just over a half ounce.
So considering this may go with a Tee Dee, how would you plumb it? Anything just short of true line-flopping uni-flow is up for consideration.

Re: Dope free build
I think it will be perfect !( no pun intended) .... it would pull an ocasional loop wouldn't it ?.....as long as fuel level isn't running low?......thats the extent of aerobatic maneuvers in my ability.....RC OR controline!.......and I killed my last lil Satan doing that!

Re: Dope free build
OB I really like that Wizard, I mean I REALLY like that Wizard, the lines are perfect and the paint job just so nice and you did a great job on it. Were it 3/4 size I would modify the nose, mount a Black Widow with the stunt tank and be done with it. As is, I still think it needs an Enya/OS .10 - .15 with a Perfect stunt tank. That's a lot of wing and a lot of paint.
Pressure smesher, for the pro's maybe. But unless your planning on being Fred Astaire of the air it's so unnecessary. I never used it and flew inverted etc. with no problems and avoided the balloon in a capsule drag. (I'm gonna catch some heat for that one.)
If you decide to go the Enya route, let me know and I'll send you one. There is an old Hot Rodder's expression "There is no substitute for cubic inches."

Re: Dope free build
There is when the weight of those engines are 3-4 times heavier. That's exactly what happens when someone tries a modern .15 on a Jr Ringmaster. The new .15's are more than twice the weight and it flies terrible.

Re: Dope free build
I have a couple .15's....OS .15 LA ...and an OS .15 max III.....way too big and heavy for this plane.. not capable of flying aerobatic stuff anyway......I do love Enyas!...but I fear it also would be too much for this plane. The box says .049-.060 engines...never heard of an .060?....
Pics make it look bigger than it is...that's only a 24" wingspan w/ a 7" chord.

If anyone would know Ken it would be you.
But I flew my P-40 for years with an Enya .19 and rebuilt it twice not because of crashes but because I just wore it out. 28" wing and perfect tank. Inverted etc. no problem. Loved that plane. Still do. Just wish I had the coordination I once had to fly it again.

I need to build one of those! ... love P-40's. The last one I had got abandoned in a move decades ago.
.. My next project I fear is over my head complicated....a big Shoestring. Looks a bit too intimidating to me...and needs lots of unincluded extras I have no way of procuring!

Re: Dope free build
Bob, I have to ask, what prompted you to mount the tank like you did on the P-40? That's exactly what's needed when running a profile. The view that you depict looking at the plane with the engine pointed away. You can see how the pickup tube is inline with the needle valve. This is critically essential especially using a TD. Wedge tanks that are wide are no good on a profile unless you do what you have done installing it inside the fuse. The problem with doing so is that if you encounter issues when going inverted or in figure eights. While some adjust tank height up and down, this method of install not only requires up and down if needed, it also might require a little side to side. One needs to make some allowance for adjustments and tack glue the tank until it can be fixed for certain. Many times when it's mounted in this fashion the run is lean on the ground until it gets going and then it richens up.

Re: Dope free build
If I got it right Ken, it was pure accident. I never knew a thing about this stuff until I started hanging out with you guys.
The P-40 was my only real stunter, that's why it got used so much. It was just so much fun to fly. I never had a problem with the Enya. But i always cared for my engines after running them and always wiped down the airframes.

I would think that tank mounting would create a very weak nose! ...OK I guess if you never boink it!
Do you want the tank outlet inline with the fuel inlet on the engine?....or the centerline of the venturi?

Same structure OB except metal instead of balsa.
Jim and I and others have had this discussion about this very plane before. Jim boinked his because he has the courage to fly while i don't.
