Happy New Flight: Pitts -Skelton Aerobatic model (page 9)

Post  MauricioB Thu Apr 23, 2020 2:31 pm

Friends, I start this thread, sharing here this project that I had in mind a long time ago.
I will build in the possible time, so a good period can be extended.
This is the drawing of the U / C Pitts -Skelton Aerobatic model, I will make my own modifications in the structure to convert it to R / C and I will also modify it according to what I consider convenient for the assembly of the parts.
Also, I will make spoilers (aileron) that will surely be included in both wings.
With this introduction, I hope you have fun like I do. Thanks and take good care of yourself!

Little Stinker is one of my all-time favorite airplanes. I think the original is in the Smithsonian now, inverted, as Betty would have wanted it.

This should be fun Mauricio! Popcorn

Well, I have embedded some pieces to see how it looks.
What I show there will be the core of force that will support the engine and the upper wing. I am very satisfied with the arrangement of the pieces.
You can also see the fuel tank presented, everything is comfortably healthy.

In this photo I present some lines where you can see how they would mount the supports of the upper wing, something like this ...

Well I just start dreaming about Pitts and I have put in templates to imagine it Very Happy

Thank you! ... I have several models powered by Cox engines, including a Biplane, the Bi-Hawk with Cox .049 RC, so I gave a Norvel .061 RC a turn.

Erick, if you see it as a PITTS, then I keep calm hahaha ... it means I'm doing well! haha

Comparison between PITTS and BI-HAWK

PITTS
Wingspan: 29.8 inches (top wing)
Wingspan: 21.02 inches (bottom wing)
Fuselage length: 19.88 inches (including rudder)
Engine: Norvel .061 r / c
Radio: 4 channels (engine, spoilers, rudder, depth)
Weight: ? (in construction)

BI-HAWK
Wingspan: 30.11 inches (top wing)
Wingspan: 25.98 inches (bottom wing)
Fuselage length: 21.65 inches (including rudder)
Engine: Cox Medallion .049 r / c
Radio: 4 channels (engine, spoilers (lower wing only), rudder, depth)
Weight: 554 grs = 19.54 oz

There place the BI-HAWK on the PITTS plane so you can see it graphically

Well, as you will see in the next photo, the author recommends a good idea to hold the top wing upright, in this case it is about two independent uprights for the front part of the wing, while the wing is definitely attached so as not to be turned by half of the lateral uprights that connect the upper wing with the lower wing.
New Flight: Pitts -Skelton Aerobatic model (page 9) Dsc03710

calculating degrees of inclination of supports:
New Flight: Pitts -Skelton Aerobatic model (page 9) Dsc03613

I have decided to change the fastening system of the upper wing, including placing (4) four independent uprights, to also hold the wing in the central part from the trailing edge.
I have taken some nimples of bicycle wheel spokes and have reduced them in diameter. These are embedded in the wood, allowing me once fixed with glue, to be able to control the incidence of the wing as desired, (in case it is necessary to make a desired adjustment after the first flights).
You can see the work done there.
A: It is the original nipple.
B: it is the nimple turned (modified) and embedded in the wooden support of the structure.
C: they are holes made in the wood, after having calculated the place of accommodation for the nipples, which eases the structure.

thank you so much for your words.
There is also the possibility of making the cabin closed.
Two options, with windscreen or closed cabin.
I'm thinking if I make a PET and present it to see how it fits.
