Testors indy car purchase
Today I won a Testors White Indy car at a auction. The car is very clean and it apears to have been run very little. It is complete except for missing the right side mirror.Does any one have parts car or mirror? Also the screws holding the body together are extremely tight and I did not want too force them in the fear of braking the screw posts.Any ideas on getting them loose! The car cleaned up really well so it may stay as a shelf queen!

Congratulations on your win!
It’s a good thing you didn’t force the body screws, they do break off very easily.
I have had some luck in removing those screws by slowly heating them with the tip of a soldering gun. Touch the tip to the top of the screw, hold for a few seconds, try a little twist with the phillips, heat up a little more and try again . Ya don’t want to get them too hot or melt the post, just warm enough to help loosen the castor gunk holding them in tight. Unless you’re gonna do a bottom to top ie:frame off, restoration I would recommend not disassembling , but, hey! It’s yours!

Thank you for your reply. The more I look at this car,I believe that it was hardly run,if at all.I will leave it together unless something needs attention. It would be nice too find a mirror for the right side as it's the only part missing.

David, if you do run the car, be cautious that the front suspension parts are quite weak. I've broken 2 of them over the past year. I'm certain it's age. Luckily, it just breaks and doesn't destroy the body, the body sandwiches the suspension parts in and I know it stresses the mounting posts where the screws attach.

If you do decide to heat the screw heads to remove the screws--- I recommend you go to Amazon and get a JIS screwdriver set if you don't have them....yes, the testors screws are typical Phillips but JIS work very well in our junk, not consistent, soft, screw heads

Thanks for all the good information. I am starting to believe that this car was never run.fuel line is clean with no castor gunk.Like wise with the motor and body.No gunk or scratches any where.Even the flexible cable turns freely! It will live on my shelf.

Good decision David. If it hasn't been ran leave it that way and find a used one to run should you find the need. However these tether cars are not a load of fun. It's not like a C/L model airplane where you have a tactile connection. It gets old in a hurry just watching them go around in circles.

I find it amazing that a good percentage of gas powered vehicles were bought and never run or played with! I know all of my Cox planes and tether cars got run a lot! My Wen mac plane was flown the most as it survived my hard/crash landings quite well!
