Testors Indy Style Car
Tried the search feature, however I did not find an answer or possibly I did a poor job at searching.
I have limited information about blow mold injection process of plastic models. Although I would presume that the entire color process would be throughout the plastic piece. In other words, as one would cut through the finished product, the cut would reveal the same color on the inside as on the outside.
My knowledge is also limited pertaining to the history of Testor's .049 powered Indy Racer. I've seen the Testors as a white .049 Sprite model. I've never seen it in any other color. Yes, I've seen the yellow .049 Wen Mac Lotus.
My question revolves around if the Testors' Indy vehicle was available in red as a blow molded vehicle? The following images reveal a concern if this available item is in actuality a red painted vehicle hiding it's original white blow molded body. As one studies the images, it appears that the inside still has evidence of white. My guess is this model has been painted red.
1) Is this an original white model painted red?
2) Were there any other colors of this Testors' vehicle other than white?
Thank you in advance for all responses.

Re: Testors Indy Style Car
Hi Doc! Thats a very good question. I know i have seen both the White Sprite car and the Yellow Indy car. I have not, until recently, seen a Red version. Our member RSVcox, Bob has both versions along with the much older teher cars in red as shown in this thread: https://www.coxengineforum.com/t11513p25-cox-riviera-wanted-to-restore#157044
Close inspection of the pictures you’ve attached it does look like the body has been painted, as you can see some white on the inside of the axle opening and in the front grille area.
There were a couple on ebay, looked like the same one, being bought and resold:

Is this the one you have??
Heres a screen shot of one on ebay now, and you can see the white plastic under the scratches in the red paint:

Thanks. I agree with you. Painted red over white body. Oh well. Glad I asked.

That one appears to be red all the way through to me. If you zoom in on the 6th picture, the rear bridle mount is broken off and appears to be red along the break.

Wow, you get extra points for having a sharp eye! That’s one of the first things I usually look at is the bridle mounts to make sure they are NOT broken, I missed that one completely!
Still, to me it was painted red after being broke, covering the break but leaving the bottom exposed to not being fully covered in paint.

Re: Testors Indy Style Car
When it comes to the ability to purchase items from people over the internet, two cliches come to mind. Namely: 1) Buyer beware and 2) Due Diligence.
I haven't uncovered if Testors ever produced a red Lotus available to the general public. They may have although I can't document that information.
At the period of release, the 1966 Red Lotus was a "looker". I can see how some white Testors may have been painted red as a personal choice from the image below. I think I'll bypass these pictured models presently available for sale.

Re: Testors Indy Style Car
Yes, I have both of those, mostly identical except one is marked Testors, the other Wen-Mac. Both are rough, I got them several years ago and just put them away, unusual for me.
Looks like the one you pictured a repaint, has just been re-listed on ebay. To much money in my opinion as these can be found rather cheaply.
What's your interest in these?
I hope the pictures will help you identify the differences between the two. Colors, decals, starters, etc.
Maybe your interest will stimulate me to tear into these.

Bob, I was just wondering if Testors ever produced a red Indy "Sprite" .049 vehicle. Pretty sure now that they never did.
Thanks

Due Diligence. Lots of variety out there with questionable painted finishes (especially on the bottom). I guess to each their own. Still interesting though.

Top section doesn't look too bad, bottom is a mess. Resembles my JW Firebaby. Wonder what the two paints were that resulted in such different finishes. I used fuel proof "Lustrekote" on my Firebaby which is compatible with Top Flights Monokote, but it still "orange peeled" but not to that extent.
Saved your picture of the full scale Lotus. I watched Jimmy Clark win the Indy 500 back in 1965 in one. Should have won the previous year also. I was always impressed by the exhaust trumpets. Ford motor, Lotus chassis. Jimmy Clark, one of my all time favorite Formula drivers.
