Re: Trout Fishing season!
Thanks. That is a great photograph. Is it teh Whiteshell, and did you take it? I am very farmiliar with the Whiteshell. Go there a few times a year for a drive and to do some shore fishing, mainly for Sturgeon. Our cottage is just north of the Whiteshell. Honestly it is about half hour away from the Wihiteshelll and about fifteen minutes away from Nopming Provincial Park. But without a good hike, that I am aware of, places like that shown are not too common. I know there are lakes there with trout, but have just not fished them. The walk for me is not a big deal, but the missus has a hard time doing hikes like that as she has bad balance and footing. Unless you know somewhere in the Whiteshell that is easily accessible.... Plus, teh mosquitoes are another whole different story. Them things kill our summers here. Cannot even enjoy doing things outdoors at the cottage starting in the early evening. They ruin the whole summer, and seem to be getting worse.

That's a beautiful rainbow. What are you using for tackle? Tying your own? That's an art and a science in itself. Those are some wiley little buggers. Hard to put one over on a big one.

Re: Trout Fishing season!
memories of childhood....brook trout, rainbow, in cold fresh.....water.... fast rivers, cricks, slow pools....red devil spoon, silver minnow, Mepps spinner, salmon eggs, ronco rod n reel, Zebco 303 rig with 10lb line.....minnesota on lake Winnibigoshish... northern pike or walleye pike slot keep/throw back.... my first ever Northern was 36 inches...had to release..... may places after for big and small mouth bass.... even a 4 poung lunker was a disappointment compared to my first ever fish....
I would love to go on guided fly fishing expedition some day

Ditto Bob.. and always good to hear from you Ron. I found trout fishing to be extremely enjoyable. I always had tackle in the car during fishing season. My region at the time had a few river networks that ran under the road-bridges of my daily commute. I would often pull off the road on my way home after work, grab the tackle and head down under a bridge in the shade. I'd usually catch two or three trout within 30 min. That's about as long as I'd stay usually.. but it was like medicine. Catch and release.. joy. For me; the sound of a brook, stream or river.. is relaxing. When your under a bridge.. it amplifies that sound.
The last "freshwater" fishing I'd done was for "shad" on some river in Connecticut.. back in the late 1990's. A neighbor had invited me. There was a vendor at the riverside that morning selling "Shad Darts".. out of his van. They were like little cork "plugs" painted fluorescent orange and yellow.. IIRC.
Where's the "Blue River" Ron? Is it local to you.. or out of state?
Looks like a bass-hole.. Got waders?
Re: Trout Fishing season!
That roddie, was my honest thinking. I have always wanted to go for largemouth bass, as they are very limited here. I had only caught 3 - 4 in stocked pond here and they were about 6" long at best... I used to watch BASS Masters every weekend and had dreamed of fishing them ever since.

The river is almost 2hrs south of me, but worth the drive. Oklahoma lakes and rivers are pretty muddy, but the Blue River is spring fed and clear.
Bait was a slip sinker and powerbait. Thanks for the comments everyone!
