carbon fiber rods

Wouldn`t cabon fiber rods work?

Sure! The goal was to keep this rare bird in as close to original condition as possible. One day the .049 will go back on it but for now, I fly and enjoy! My daughter has the .049 powered Cessna and I'll build my Ace RC GLH II with an .049 TD.Jaspur_x wrote:xplaneguy wrote:One of the challenges with the Sky Rally is the lite weight aluminum tubing used in the airframe. You can also find them on eBay and Craigs list for between $100 -$150 depending on condition and either with or without the Cox/Sanwa radio.

Tony,
That is a really cool story. I have an eleven year old daughter that I am still trying to get interested in R/C but no luck yet. What ever it was that got your daughter interested I'm jealous. If you have a secret please share it.
Enjoy,
Bob

Re: Cox .049 QRC Cessna 182 Skylane
Bob,
Thanks for your kind words. I'm a full-time single father and have raised my daughter completely on my own from 18 months of age till her present age of 12, so we spend a lot of time together. Honestly, passion for aviation has driven me throughout my life and I believe that may have rubbed off on my daughter. I believe that she watches the joy these little motors and models have brought into my life and was curious. Initially, she was reluctant to fly RC planes when I offered because she was affraid to crash one of Dad's planes. After I reassured her not to worry about that, she began to fly. I bought her a Parkzone Radian Electric Powered Glider and she quickly gained confidence in her abilities. Another great thing that happens when she flies at our local field is the support and cheers she receives from the other pilots. They make her aware that few young girls fly RC and it makes her feel good to know that she is doing something that few girls do or attempt.
For years, Evelyn heard me talking with other pilots about my early days in RC and she recently wanted to know more. Once that .049 started and she felt its power in such a small package, she got it! She said, "Now I know why you played with these motors when you were a kid, they are so cool! I told her, "It was better than any Atari 2600 video game! I'd spend all day running my Cox engines and flying my Cox .049 powered control line and rc planes!" Even a few token Testors .049 control line planes. Evelyn recently received a new Cox .020 from our club president and cherishes that little engine! The same thing happened to me at a young age, I don't if the man who gave me my first .020 truly knew the lasting affect that gift had on me. As much as I love to collect and cherish my Cox collection, I believe that what occurred this past Sunday will be a life long memory for both my daughter and I. I also believe that the more we make a new generation aware of the thrill of these Cox engines, the more likely of a renewed interest in 1/2A. I'd love to be in my 80's watching pilots still flying 1/2A powered models. I'm 42 yeas old and hope that I'm not at the tail end of the 1/2A generation. I'm on a mission!
All the best,
Tony

I think most here are on a mission!
There should be an inspire a kid reward
There are a fair few younger member here.

politically incorrect........
But that political incorrectness aside, most kids these days(not all but most) need me to write inspire on the toe of my boot so I can properly apply inspiration
