Official Endurance Run Time Thread - And the Winner is...
Place yer bets, Ladies and Gentlemen! Place yer bets!!!
This will be the official thread for stating your guesses on how long the Summer 2019 Cox Endurance Run Engine will go for. This endurance run was suggested by Mark Diedrichs in this thread (https://www.coxengineforum.com/t13129-what-about-a-cox-049-engine-endurance-contest). The engine is a stock Cox .049 Production Engine PT-19, and has a Cox .049 Snap Starter Spring & Cam. The engine will run with the 5x3 Cox prop that was installed on the engine as received.
This engine was generously donated by Bernie and the good folks at Cox International: Cox International
The fuel was generously donated by our good friend and fellow CEF member, Marleysky. Thank you again, my friend.
The only thing changed from the stock configuration of this engine for the run is that it will be using a 5 fin glow head instead of a 3 fin glow head for hopefully a little better cooling.
THE RULES:
We are guessing on how long an endurance run will be for a product engine on one quart of fuel. The fuel chosen is the Cox Super Fuel that we lobbied Tower Hobbies to formulate for us a couple of years ago. The fuel is 35% Nitro, 20% oil consisting of 10% castor and 10% synthetic, and 45% methanol. The prop is the plastic 5x3 prop as supplied by Bernie. The glow head is a 5 fin Texaco head with 4 shims.
Since no two engines are alike, and one cannot calculate exactly how long this engine will run based on their previous experience, I understand the final result could be wildly above or below what people are figuring. So, to make this more fair, I am going to give everyone two (2) guesses. A High and a Low guess on how many minutes the engine will run. Whoever has a guess closest to the actual run time wins.
HOW TO ENTER:
Between today, and August 16, make a post in this thread with your name and how long, in minutes, you think the engine will run on a quart of fuel. Please use the following format:
Name: Batjac
High time: 3,682 minutes
Low Time: 12 minutes
Any other comments are welcome, of course.
THE PRIZE:
Whoever wins by guessing the closest time wins the engine and the two additional props as supplied by Cox International. I will clean up the engine, reset the piston, oil it, put it back in its original packaging, and mail it to the winner.
Okay people, give us your best guesses!

2nd attempt to post...
GUS THE I.A.
High = 257 minutes
Low = 223 minutes
Cool!
1. If the engine dies before all of the fuel is consumed, will it be restarted?
2. If the glow head fails, will a new one be installed, the engine restarted, and time continue?

He clearly posted in his opening thread to “get your best guesses in” Does he not want us to guess yet? Are you co-running the event with Mark? If you are that’s cool, you just might want to get together and discuss , one saying go and the other saying no is confusing.

Yeah, a bump is just a way of moving the thread to the top of the pile for more viewing.
You started with keep your pants on, then said we have until aug 23rd, finished with give Mark time to prepare. I just took it as written, sorry.

For us foreign chaps, this is a US quart not to be confused with an Imperial quart.
A US quart is 0.946352946 litres whereas an Imperial quart is 1.1365225

Yep. Spotted that one. All my calculations (guesses) were based on conversion to metric. I just worked on how long a Babe Bee will run on its 5cc tank and a Golden Bee or Black Widow on their 8cc tank. I see that my guesses are very much on the "top end" of the range. Hoping Mark leans her out for the run. Clearly my experience has been more fuel efficient than others.

Ah, but you're all forgetting something in your calculations. Yes, it's a U.S. quart of fuel. But the engine came from Bernie up in Canada, so it's a metric .049 cubic inch engine.
