Re: New video for the 2019 Run What Ya Brung to conform
Ken is correct and I deliberately defined the loosey goosey rules to capture Ken, Sean, Bob, his son and ALL other CEFers for a fun contest totally devoid of serious standards and total pay out in many classes to a lot of winners
BUT to have relative meaning we all need to be on same C/L page so I did post 32 and 42 feet in the general rules....In C/L speak that is always centerline of mosel to centerline of handle
Plenty of time for another flight or leave that entry as is and let the voting sort it out....
"I have no skin in the game here. I didn't write the rules nor do I enforce them. If you think that using 16' is correct, I can tell you it's absolutely incorrect and it's almost silly to think it is. When those line lengths were offered, they were specified to mean center of plane to center of handle."
in this Ken is correct....and I am patiently awaiting his entry

Nailed down.
Great!
So I'm a 32 1/2A footer, 64 feet of total line. 25 feet ran me dizzy the last time I actually flew one of these silly things. Put me right down on my belly, picture shown a few times here.
I'm ground crew.

We used to run mouse races with 3 in the circle on 30 ft. lines. Thought that was the standard for figuring out the speed. The 1/2A speed class was 42' and the profile proto still is but maybe the speed class is longer now. They are going around 140 mph now. Not with a TD of course. I think A speed (.15s) is a bit over 60 ft. now too, as they are getting close to 200 mph and the guys could not run that fast.

Re: New video for the 2019 Run What Ya Brung to conform
Fred, Ideally I like to fly on asphalt due to having one wheel. On grass landings are cartwheels. When the Philly Fliers went to the asphalt circles were we fly in Reading, PA, a tree was down across the 1/2A circle. The tree has been removed but the guys that were flying larger stuff were having a [bleep] fit about us using the larger circle. I did post a pic of my old mouser that has two wheels. Our 1/2A day is the 19th of May. I don't know how much more the contest is running for but this would be a ideal time for me to get a flight recorded. There might be a possibility to get some in sooner.

I'm hoping to slip in under the wire. I thought I read entries had to be in between end of April to end of May. I read it to mean the airframe needed to be completed by end of April...I may need late, but I'm coming in on fire!

Ken Cook wrote:I haven't read the rules but I don't even know where 32' comes from. The practical line length to fly a Cox reedie is center of handle to center of plane 35' which is usually granted a + or - of 3". Center of plane to center of handle is the standard when line lengths are described on control line planes, there's nothing subjective about it. Using one continuous line length of 32' and folding it in half is not correct nor should it be considered.
Yes.. I had planned on a single 70 foot line running from one lead-out, through my handle.. and back to the other lead-out. That's 35 feet.. and I arrived at that length after the official CEF Speed Contest rules reduced the required line-length from 42 feet to 35 feet.. and also added a FRV (Tee Dee/Medallion) .049 class.
I'm not implying that those rules apply to the "Run What Ya' Brung" contest. I just felt that 35 foot lines (from handle to model) would suit either contest.. if I happened to be able to compete in either one.. or a future one.
Re: New video for the 2019 Run What Ya Brung to conform
Okay, I made a new flight with this plane, conforming to conventional norms. The same plane, same engine, and same 25% fuel. This time with 32' center-to-center lines, 10# Spectra instead of the previous 20# lines to lower the drag. An APC 4.75x4 speed prop instead of the Cox 5x3 prop. This time I actually peaked out the engine, since I didn't have to worry about screwing myself into the ground.

And today:
Sorry about the morning glare on the tape measure, but you can figure it out.
And flight video:
My launcher was in the way when I raised and lowered my arm to signal ready to start timing. I checked times at the beginning of the flight and end to compare speeds. They're about the same. Taking an unofficial time of the 10 laps running from 0:15.56 to 0:45.90 gives a 10 lap time of 30.34 seconds, for a speed of 45.16 MPH/72.68 KPH/20.19 MPS using the speed calculator in the second post. Much better than the withdrawn flight with a calculated speed of 35.47 MPH. A 27% increase in speed. You see what happens when you force me to be serious about it?
