Gentleman's rules

Winners by CEF popular vote

Voting* between 30 April and 30 May

Paying winners to three places for each of the two classes...REED and FISE
$100 cash PayPal or snail mail

Bonus points* for documenting the build and testing

If we can NOT get 5 or more CEF members ( or non members) to participate and compete this will be my last attempt

I am simply too palsy and infirm to CD a 2019 COX engine max RPM contest

BUT if some one will step up, I will sponsor with similar Cash prize offerings

* RUN WHAT YA BRUNG UNLIMITED:

Must be Cox engine, and not some Cyclone Cox hybrid...that said; any typical Documented Cox hop up is allowed
Recommend reading Paul Gibeault's Mouse racer engine prep and tuning

It is a speed contest... this implies already best practices self limiting air-frame and configurations

If you have a very hot .051 TeeDee and want to see if a Baby Ringmaster BiPlane can turn fast laps...well give it a go, document and enter

Then stuff that hot engine on the nose of a thinned and lightened SkyRay and fly some more laps

Rocket assist is not allowed!

BUT!!!! I will offer a fourth prize of $50 for any contender that does a speed run with JATO ...documented and video taped......Evil grin

Point is to have fun, prove we at CEF really are the gentlemen we already demonstrate every day and perhaps entice some RCG RCU Stunthanger to be new members and participate

* Voting:
TOP MPH calculated from 32 (REED) or 42 (FISE) foot lines is 80% of the total
Build and testing documentation is 10% of the total
Execution, complexity, originality, uniqueness, fit n finish, 10%

* Bonus Points....By popular vote the best build and testing documentation On CEF will receive a $50 CoxInternational Or ExModelengins gift certificate...winners choice...or $25 to each supplier

This was a jump start of inspiration, I pulled out my mouser and cleaned the engine up. This event requires no fancy blah blah blah. Just go out slap a engine on a slab winger and go fly it. Get out that plane that didn't live up to it's stunt like prowess and see how fast it goes. The Swordsman 18, Stuntman 23, as Fred mentioned the Skyray, the Lil Wizard, all good mouse racer platforms. Light isn't the name of the game here, this is about A-B flying as fast as you can do it.

This is a well seasoned plane, not built by me but rather a well known speed flyer who has departed. I have owned this plane for 20 years. All the dope on the wings have cracked, probably old Aero Gloss which adds even more character.

I have an old mouse here. I used it to train the kids, hmm 30 + years ago. That was about as far as they went. Kind of afraid to fly it over grass. We used 30 ft lines. It times out to the 60 ft. tables divided by two. I made this one super nose heavy so the kids wouldn't overcontrol. It would go better with a TD.

Ok guys, I'm running wide open and burning the candle at both ends. Please forgive my ignorance, especially since I think I'm the guy that asked for an extension a few months back.

What is the last day that entrants can be posted? I have a plan, an engine, and a strong desire to make people smile with my entry. I suspect I have only a couple of weeks before the deadline hangs me.

I considered myself in. Should have one or two days of decent flying weather between April 30 and May30th. Not gonna document the build, as I planned to use my original ( geeze should I say 50 year old) Lil Wizard with a newer Baby Bee and maybe a adaptor for a TD. it’s not pretty, but still has Wings! Adding the JATO was a bonus!

Fred what is the cut off date ? And As you i would like to see hands of who is in (as how many and were your at ) with the build >> I have been busy as the devil with fire wood and just trying to maintain a 1/2 A life but am still thinking only take a couple or 3 weeks to get one made up << If enough are in on this i would like to suggest June 1st. as have it done and flight logged , Now where are we at ?? Bump !! Well that should give enough time to participate with SOMETHING !!! I really don't think we here should let good old Fred down ! Believe it or not the last contest was a lot of fun to get out there and see what you can do with what U built, my teammate will bee back home by then and i will have a contestant for this event . Glue / wood / an hour or so a day and Done !! Flying

I'm still a bit miffed 'cauz nobody else sent in their entry in time thus the necessity for Fred to cancel it and reschedule. But hey! I abstained at his first offering but later rethought.

I have since acquired this Lil Devil built by someone else, but I did buy a can of rattle can orange at great expense and touched up the scuffs, so I do have skin in the game. But, unfair advantage for me, I mounted one of Fred's franken coxes on the nose. But questions arise about it running without pressure or would fit under Fred's rules.

I'm in. I screwed up my shoulder, so I can't fly currently. I haven't even done any building for almost two months.... But I should be able to get an official flight in before the cut-off date. I have my plane at the 90% done, 90% to go stage. Unfortunately, I won't be able to get my second plane built like I wanted to. Again, what is the official cutoff date? April 30th?

From there:

Run what you brung implies:
1) any Cox mentioned as above
2) any design
3) JATO means Rocket engine asssited Take-Off, but not to power the flight
4) Unlimited means just that

Time hacks are assumed to be Documented Flight No Later Than April 29, so as to meet the voting windows.

I'm in guys, but am formulating my Plan of Execution based in my understandings. Please correct me quickly since I'm very close to not meeting gates.

I will say I plan on bending each rule, unless CD tightens down the screws!

we should "team-up" Jim! "FISE".. means [F]ront [ I ]ntake [S]ide [E]xhaust... which broadens your choice, to any of the .049/.051 Cox engines.

JATO/RATO is super-cool in "full-scale" military applications.. but last I knew; the AMA forbids any type of jet or rocket-assisted take-off, for any aero-models in any of their sanctioned events. Something that you might want to keep in mind.

Is this virtual contest restricted to AMA members only? I'm virtually a member of the American Modelling Amateurs...does that count?

Does this mean "No JATO?" I already started working out how to trigger the engine AND release the stooge using my Ingenious Through Heat Unmanned Release Technology System (Also known as IT-HURTS).

Roddie, I may need to hit you up for three wood wheels for the stooge. Ms Maureen at the Wood Parts place hasn't reached back yet.

How does one practice for 2.5 second laps?

I was thinking in the shower. I'm going to rob one of the boys' PineWood derby cars for wheels. They are pretty narrow, have a big axle shaft hole large enough for a coat hanger wire to fit through, and best of all...plastic!

One less detail to finish and seal for a one-flight cruise missile (oops, almost gave it away).

What...no question on "IT-HURTS?"

I'm thinking of using a string-secured stooge. The release will be a string tied across the "JATO" nozzle. Set up the plane and rocket motor, start the engine, and trigger the motor. The motor burns through the string, allowing take off.
