Looks a little too fast for a newbie. Not really fair making him turn around that quick for the first try
Maybe close up the handle spacing as well, or adjust the bell crank/horn to slow down the movement. The "overcompensation" is pretty typical for a first-timer.

Re: 2018 to 2019 CEF Run What YA Brung UNLIMITED speed contes (CLOSED)
For many years, the concept that plagued many was to offer as much elevator input that one could offer. Another concept is that flying small 1/2A models to teach someone to fly is positive. Learning to fly a .35 size model may make someone feel intimidated, but it's far superior to flying 1/2A, the speeds are slower and the control inputs aren't as twitchy. My first flight was flying a 48" Midwest P-63, my dad would take it off and I would run out to the circle and he would hand it off to me. I still own and fly that plane today. I can't even begin to comment on how many 1/2A's I wrecked in the beginning years. My poor Cox PT-19 had more tape and epoxy on it, it was amazing it left the ground.
One particular model that always intrigued me was the Flite Streak. The Streak has literally no elevator and generally offered little movement but even today, it will out fly almost any profile you put it up against. After many years did I finally recognize what made it tick.
Most of the models which used a integral Bee engine are nose heavy and fly fair when the power is on but it causes the model to hunt. The end result is exactly as shown, over controlled. Instructions also included installing the pushrod wire into the outer most hole of the bellcrank. Even the old Cox handle, Goldberg, and Sig handle with their multiple hole spacing led many to use the outermost holes and rarely did anyone use the closest holes in the center of the handle. For the choice few that did, it was most rewarding. Stock 1/2A control horns, especially Sig single holed horns are too small and the use of a .35 size horn is what's needed for mild tamed flying.

To piggyback on Ken's comments regarding closer line spacing, Larry Renger's 1/2A kit handle from RSM is absolutely the bee's knees. It comes with inserts that allow for quick changes in line spacing.
I started flying my Scientific P-40 on 2.25" line space ng, but found it too twitchy. Taki g it down to 1.75" cured the twitchy-ness (is that a word?).

Me or Mark...Thinking Mark, but I may take the dizzies for the team
To summarize. Fred says July 31'st. That means anytime between now and then, right?
32' lines reed, 42' FISE? which I guess means front rotary valve.?
"This is a speed contest". Score equals 80% of total. Fastest lap or an average of how many.
Gentleman rules governing the documentation.
Sounds like fun. Now if I can only spring Mark from Mustangville.

Bob, the FISE should read Cox TD.

I took it as Front Intake Side Exhaust, but only a TD fits that description.

FISE would rule out a Conquest I suppose. I could maybe run mine now that I have a spare?!!! Don't really have any plane for it. That would be 52 ft lines I would hope, then there are the Sportsman and TD .15s? Someone may want to run one. Not that there are too many entries yet.

Re: 2018 to 2019 CEF Run What YA Brung UNLIMITED speed contes (CLOSED)
I didn't make the rules and I'm not quoting anything here but the rules were laid out initially based on line lengths for .049-.051 engines be it reed or TD. When Jim started these contests early on, there was mention of .15's, however it was also mentioned that due to the rarity of these engines it wasn't worth risking damage to them.

Then FISE and FRV are the basically same thing?
I never got to tied up in the semantics, favoring the KISS option instead.
After 68 years of this I'm still a willing learner.

FISE and FRV are not the same. You can have a FIRE front rotary rear exhaust engine which is what the Conquest is.

Thanks Ken. I wasn't thinking the Conquest specifically but reed and front rotary valve engines generally.

I feel the Conquest was Cox's greatest achievement. Too bad they folded up just after that. I would run mine up no problem, if I had a suitable plane. All I have, really, is an F2D combat.

Purple Plane Factory has it's entry for the Race!
This is the finished product! Yes, RWYB are the letters on the wing. In the other pictures, I thought it looked fast; in these pictures, I think it looks too pretty to race against all the other ugly planes. (Are we supposed to be "trash- talking"?)
