Cox Arctic Trainer
So this past weekend I picked this up along with a couple of other thing, but will just focus on this here. Anyways, it is an apparently rare Cox Arctic Trainer. Overall, it is in good shape for its age. There are a couple of small cracks in teh fuselage that are very minor. The biggest thing to me was teh elevator assembly. The gentleman I got it from had installed a spare yellow one, of which I was totally fine with, then he showed me that teh original was there, but had a broken mount where the elevator hook up was. I was originally just going to drill a new hole, then thought I would attampt a fix. So I gave the area a good sanding and flashed quickly with my torch then masked an area with tin tape. I mixed up some epoxy and 'poured' it in the area. I let it set up and harden, then filed to the correct shape and size. I then marked the location of the rod and drilled a 1/16" hole by hand. I gave it a few tugs and twists and it seems to be holding up. Unfortunately, again, I forgot to take before pictures and also before installing it. As well, I tried a glue stick to install the decals on the wing as I do not have any spray adhesive here at the moment. The only thing I now can see I am missing is a tail skid and do not know what they look like so will now do some searching.

Congratulations Chancey! I never knew of this Cox model. Very VERY COOL!! literally...
Re: Cox Arctic Trainer
If I may, Ice, do you possibly happen to remember where you got yours from? Just asking as these seem to be a rare model and believe that Sears was the only place that sold them I believe I read. If that was true, was it possibly only available at Sears, or was it available all over with just not many people wanting it in that color at the time.

Re: Cox Arctic Trainer
As per a request of another member, I will post a couple pictures of the round Canadian logos on the side of the fuselage. Luckily, my fuselage has one still, so was able to get the pictures. I will one day figure out how to re-create them so I can print another and put it on the other side, along with the white and blue stripes. But for now, here are the roundels (?). They are 1 1/4" diameter. The outer red circle is 1/16" diameter.

Re: Cox Arctic Trainer
With a thanks to Dr.Cox, I got my butt in gear to bring some glory back to this old bird. I removed all factory decals and cleaned it up with some denturated alcohol at 91% I picked up on my last trip across the border. I was then greatfully sent a couple of new Canadian roundells to use. As well, today while picking up some methanol from my local race car driver/dealer, I also picked up some white and blue decal materials. I traced out the originals and remade them, however, the blue stripe was applied over the white, and not printed on. The only kicker was that when I went to remove some residue from teh tail, my mind slipped, and I gave it a quick wipe with some thinner and softened the plastic slightly on one side of the tail. But I quickly got it off with just a bit of noticable smudging...... I then applied the decals, and now this is it as it sits, along with the newly homemade tail skid made from a screw drawer divider that I just got to paint white, and I replaced the propeller with a LH 6 x 2. I hope you enjoy.

Re: Cox Arctic Trainer
Looks beautiful. Just like mine 35 years ago! Incidentally the tail skid is not really good. Better to drill the skid and install a nice rubber spinning wheel. My experience.
