New to me Golden Bee! now with Pics!

New to me Golden Bee! now with Pics!
Just received my Golden Bee yesterday. Ebay purchase for $8. It looks to be only lightly used. Anodizing is still extremely good with only a couple small blemishes. It has a #2 cylinder with a step and a "w" style glow filament that glows very bright and zero tool marks. The backplate has the crimped screen and the "made in U.S.A"
So armed with that info, any best guess on what year it was made?
I am happy today!!!!
Pics tonight.......
As promised..... Haven't run it yet but, its all cleaned up and ready to go!

Is my old W head of any value to you collectors? I have no use for it. It needs shining up, but I don't think there's any metal damage or galling. It lights up fine, but if it's a treasure I'll trade it for something.

Rusty,
I think it's more of an oddity than a treasure. From what I have read they affect performance in a negative way. A collector might need one to make an engine original or something along those lines.
I had never seen one until now and it is in great shape. They didn't make too many for reasons already stated.
Throw it on the for sale section and see what you get for it!

Great looking engine and for a great price, where am I when deals like that come up!
Yeah I agree with Mark, I would say early 70's, perhaps between 1971-73 or so.

Thanks,
Yeah the price was right, one of those mis-labeled ebay finds. Seem to happen less and less lately.
I have been real creative in my searches. Sometimes I find something!

Yeah, I'll polish it up. Maybe somebody will trade me a Gallbreath head or something like that for it.cribbs74 wrote:RknRusty wrote:Is my old W head of any value to you collectors? Re: New to me Golden Bee! now with Pics!
I just check my notes and the non-tapered case appeared in '72, so we know its at least '72 or newer, but probably not much if the 'W' glowhead is original.

Rons above looks very much like mine (camera not working at the mo) but for the cylinder which I think
is a No1.
Does tht mean anything age wise to you guys?

John,
My cylinder is stamped with a "2" and of all my engines it's the only one with a stamp.

Mark,
When did they manufacture the W? While possible, I don't think it's a replacement head as no fastner on the engine had any tool marks. Even the piston was still copper on top.

Ron:
Your GB is a "dead ringer" for mine with a #2 cylinder and only a very few cosmetic "scuffs" in the usual places most noticeably from a snap-starter sping on the crankcase snout.
If you get any hints on the year of manufacture please pass them on to me.
I'm still awaiting my TD "jewel case" .049 from Paul Gibeault in Alberta, BC.

Ok then, If that head is original it's a '72. Does it matter? No but, it's good to know. Thanks for all the help! Rep points given as deserved!
