"Racket Is Golden" Bernie's Backplate on a Golden Bee
Just a short video as I play around with one of the new aluminum backplates I got from Bernie.
https://coxengines.ca/
For whatever reason, I decided to build up a Bee from the junk box, and it got along great with the backplate. I had no leaks, and everything went together well. I probably ought to put a new, straighter needle valve in at some point, but things are groovy right now.
Apologies ahead of time for the nearly unreadable Glow Bee Tachometer...the angle of the sun on it's LCD screen gave the video camera some trouble. Most of the time, the "Junkyard Bee" was running in the high 13k's...not bad for a pieced-together engine.
This engine, and a stunt tank version (probably a trusted Golden Bee), will be bolted to the Q-Tee for some laps around the hill when the weather allows...so the backplates can get some real world wear and tear.
Thumbs Up Here!!!!
Thanks to Bernie for this new and exciting chapter with these little castor slingers!

Livin' my life Kim, nothing like making something out of nothing and checking the new backplate at the same time.

WAY TO GO KIM! Nice build up from the parts box. Good to know the backplates match up leakfree too! Thanks for the report and video.

Thanks guys! Eyeing an innocent Golden Bee, and waiting for the mood to strike again!|
P.S.---As mentioned by Bernie in an earlier post...these things are PRETTY! A true fanatic could probably justify hanging one on a chain for bling.

Waiting for my silver stunt plat to arrive. 19f degrees this morning.
Might be a while before I get to try it. So why did I post this?

Nice test Kim! Does the backplate have a steel insert for the NV or it screws right into the aluminum body?

Good question Andras and one I meant to ask.
I eyeballed it on the CI website and couldn't determine for sure, but I would think that it has the insert.

I just now tested it, and my magnet grabs and holds on---so yes...there's an insert in there.

Thanks Kim for checking..I expected it because aluminum threads would not hold for long.Heating the backplate will allow the pressing in of a steel insert thanks to the different thermal expansion coefficients so assembling it should not be a problem.

"Racket Is Golden" Bernie's Backplate on a Golden Bee
I wanted to run the "Stunt Tank" version backplate today, and rather than build up another engine, I chose a faithful old friend that's dragged assorted flying machines around the Hill and S.M.A.L.L's for a long time.
With no changes other than new gaskets and pick-up tube, the old Golden Bee got it's backplate swapped, and was bolted to the stand and cranked up. I'd put several runs on the Babe Bee, but I decided to REALLY run it's golden sibling by doing on-the-run refuels just for the heck of it.
Once settled into it's run, the GB was real steady, and probably would have flown the B.O.T. all the way to Little Rock if it could have lifted the fuel. After 20 minutes or so, I let it run out it's fuel with no needle-fiddling along the way.
One Note to Any New-Comers: While the old hands all know this...it is important to use the fillister style backplate screws to prevent fuel leaks. I just used the GB's original in the test, with no leakage, but I think Matt and Bernie stock them if you need replacements.
So now, the Q-Tee is on charge, and we may sneak a flight in later today.

Is the newer backplate intake hole the same as a stock Bee backplate?

Don't know at this moment, though I think it was discussed in the other thread.

Anodizing looks good David, no need to name it.
I imagine the backplate hole is .082. However if it was less it would allow for more options. Things can always be drilled!
From your pictures one does look larger than the other. In application it makes sense as well.
