Mystery Cox Corvette
I just got a "Cox Corvette" I can't find a drop of info on this thing. It's a steel body with incredible detail. It's heavy as all hell. Having a half dozen other Cox gas cars I was amazed at its weight,
and actually weighed it, 2.7 pounds.
It has an engine and as a newb I can't say for certain that it's a Cox, but I will say that if I had seen it before I bought it I would have paid twice as much without question. There isn't even a fingerprint on this (other than mine).
Does anybody have any idea what I've got?
Thanks
Kurt

An excerpt from Worthpoint website:
"VINTAGE COX GAS-POWERED CORVETTE STINGRAY IN BOX ( 1960'S). THIS IS A VERY RARE FIND. YOU NEVER SEE THEM WITH THE BOX. THESE WERE MADE BY COX AND THEY WERE 1/20TH SCALE TETHER CARS--YOU SUNK A SCREW INTO SOMETHING AND RAN STRING FROM THE SCREW TO THE CAR AND IT WENT IN CIRCLES. THIS IS THE RED STINGRAY."

Re: Mystery Cox Corvette
That is a Cox chassis modified to fit a die cast model of the same scale. Very well done.

I'm thinking you hit the nail on the head.
After posting I spent 4 hours looking for this thing. Nothing made matches it.
The only other thought tossed my way was this might have been a "demo" used in a presentation to get somebody to approve something to be made.
Something like the auto industry does with clay models, just a bit smaller, so it fits on Kurts shelf.
Thanks for all the input!

Not unusual for cooperations to issue contracts for small batchs of promotional items as awards/giveaways to employees, friends etc. The Ford Mustang for example produced many, many such items. Very big with collectors.
Good to see that you are supporting the forum receiving the 2023 Cox starter battery emblem. Something that I need to catch up on.
Bob
Edit add...........Aha Jacob I see is on the ball.......

My friend's Dad was the parts manager at a local Chevrolet dealer and they used to send the dealers these incredibly detailed models whenever a new car would be coming out. Being at the receiving end of everything that entered the building, one of each always managed to make it into his house. I remember seeing them but I'm pretty sure none of them had Cox engines in them.
Just to give you an idea of how detailed this car is the checkered flags on the hood and the word "Sting Ray" on the rear deck aren't decals. They're silk-screened. The flags are 3 colors. Somebody put an awful lot of effort into this.
