Re: Got it!............... :)
Looks good, Bob, glad to see you really maximized your salvage efforts considering the dilapidated condition starting. With heads painted on McCoy Red Heads and K&B Torpedo Green Heads, I guess to replace the lost blue anodize you could paint the head in a metallic heat resistant auto paint.
I don't remember who it was that told me, but apparently Herkeimer OK Cubs had their share of marginal fitments with new out of the box engines with little compression. So, it wasn't just Testors McCoy Red Heads alone that had quality issues. But back then with all Castor fuel, it wouldn't take many runs to build up compression from Castor varnish. It's sort of like a crusty old cast iron frying pan.

I love it when a plan comes all together! Looks good there. Could the low compression you mention have anything to do with a 'like new' engine and the plug not set in the proper place yet? I don't really know much about diesels.

Re: Got it!............... :)
That crossed my mind too George. I have some red high heat engine paint left over from my MG. Applied lightly at a 90 degree angle to the fins might work. Think I will check the auto stores first. Ford blue might be a better choice. Some of the original anodizing remained that was protected.
I don't know Rene, I have no experience with diesels either. That said, my first model engine (I was nine or ten) was a diesel, despite a trip to the pharmacy for ether I never got it running.
I do have a NIB Enya diesel, guess I could dig it out and check compression.
Aha, found a picture....wouldn't ya know.

Bob, you have the prized .06 / .08 Enya. I've always wanted one of those in glow, but I missed my chance to buy 15 years ago when they were available in Asian stores by mail order. Now they seem to command unreasonable prices on the bay. Enya made an earlier rear reed valve .06 in the same form factor. Of course anything Enya does they do excellently. It had truly decent performance as a reedy from what I've read.
But as I'm losing hair in my greying head and got a few pains now in my arthritic body, there is an end to all things, and as such will be content with what I have for now. Am waiting for a 1960's 38" Jetco Rearwin Speedster cabin to arrive. I've always considered it as one of the prettiest cabin aircraft around, now getting around to acquire one 40 years later. Anticipate a move some time future where the winds aren't as austere and can fly the half-A's again.

Bob. If you have a good o-ring and a good copper head gasket then the lack of compression can only be leakage past the piston. If you notice little difference between having the adjuster backed off and screwed down then piston fit is your problem. Any average diesel needs to have similar sharp compression to your nicest feeling glow engine. It's far easier to get a tired glow started than a tired diesel. See how it feels with a glow head fitted. Give it a good run with plenty of caster as a glow engine. if running for a while improves the compression then swap back to the diesel head and see how it feels.
Rod.

That's it George. I replaced it.

Could that C-ring be from the piston, holds the connecting rod's piston pin cup? (I don't know how its constructed, just surmising.)
