Fuel where to get.
Fuel where to get.
I have been ordering my fuel from Sig. But I just got a email from them saying, Our suppliers are out of nitro methane and do not know when they will get it again.
So where do you all get your fuel from, at a reasonable cost? I like fuel with castor in it for my older engines.

Re: Fuel where to get.
You can buy fuel on ebay as an option depending what brand you want.
My source says he is out of Nitro too!
To insure I have plenty of summer fuel I bought a gal. of 30% for RC cars.
I have a quart of castor on tap. Torco C1 has 10% high performance synthetic will
add 14% castor to the mix should do just fine. Will use it for .049 to .15 engines.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Torco-RC-Fuel-30-Nitro-Car-and-Truck-Gallon/190467683907?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2648
They do sell Heli fuel with 22% oil but it's all synthetic so the trick is to buy the low 10%
oil so you can beef it up with a healthy % castor.

Re: Fuel where to get.
oooo, that's scary!
My last purchase of fuel was from SIG. My second to last purchase was from Hobbico, with the "New" correct castor % formula (2014) as:
Cox Super Power Fuel,=sadly Hobbico went bankruupt, was bought by Horizon Hobby and i can't find it on the "new" web site.
A few members bought from GlowPlugBoy brand Glow Fuel which I believe was purchased and is now run by Fritz as Fritz Fuels?
this was a OLD e-Bay listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/222147788892?ViewItem=&item=222147788892
I certainly hope that SIG can source the Nitro and re-supply our needs.
Otherwise I have read on other forums that someone has been using 30%nitro Heli Fuel and adding a few ounces of Klotz Castor to blend it to 20% oil.
there are a number of threads where the mixing or blending of different fuels can be used has been discussed, mainly being concerned with the importance of having 20% oil content with at least 50% of the oil being Castor Oil.
Last Line of Defense: https://coxengines.ca/diesel-head-conversion-for-cox-049.html We will join our British, Australian and European Brothers in oil.....do not under any circumstances say the word that's not spoken (electric) Yikes! !

Re: Fuel where to get.
Brodak also offers all castor fuel. Don't go to the website and see the costs of shipping, YOU MUST call to verifty a order and price. S&W also makes fuel in any blend. Unfortunately, Powermaster stopped offering all castor fuel which was my go to castor fuel 10 /29. Randy Ritch aka Ritch's Brew is in Texas and will make any type of fuel.

RE: Fuel where to get ?
The current trade issues we have with China are probably the major reasons that there is a shortage of nitromethane.
Most all nitro production worldwide is and has been from Chinese companies for many years now.
I recall that China shut down all nitro production, warehousing, and shipping during the 2008 Beijing Olympics due to possible terrorist issues.
They didn't want a ship load of the stuff "accidently" going off in one of their seaports.
The model hobbyist industry is a tiny percentage of use after industrial use and motor sports use.
The shortage was so severe in 2008 that the National Hot Rod Association ( NHRA) was going to have to cancel the entire racing season due to no fuel for the top classes.
As I remember, Don Schumacher Racing had 500 drums (55 Gallons per drum) in a warehouse and made a deal with the NHRA to make fuel available for all racers to keep the season alive.
This is the dependency we have when US production is allowed to leave the county.
FWIW Steve....
