Popeye goes Sky Diving...the Movie
Decided I needed a break from the wiring/fiddling with the three projects on my table, and had a fairly reasonable day, so Popeye got some attention.
No real description is necessary, other than to mention that Popeye nearly got hung-up in the Kadet's tail feathers, after his ill-timed departure from his 'coffin'. An attempted loop (with an intended 2-3 second inverted hold to help him exit) saw the Kadet stall vertically, with Popeye falling out as it flopped forward. Luckily, he fell free after bouncing around the Kadet's aft fuselage for a second or so.
So, Popeye and the Kadet survive and ought to be a hit if they make it to the 'Popeye Fun-Fly' this Fall.

Way, way to much fun Kim. The keychain camera on Pop's chest is a stroke of genius.
If you had todays wind here in WV you would never have found him.

Thanks Bob!
My landlady's boys were out working the fields around my house, and probably wondering what the weird guy on the hill was up to...

Nice one Kim. When I saw the title of the thread and read the first paragraph and saw the first picture and thought you were just talking about the sticker. I had no idea you had a toy Popeye on board. Good job. I am kind of surprised, however, that he does stay in his box. After seeing that, I was thinking that any wind/turbulance would honestly just 'suck' him out of there.

Yeah, I figured it to be a risk, but was too lazy to put some sort of servo-activated strap on him. To my credit, I DID stretch a rubber band across the floor of Popeye's 'coffin', with the chute and some of the lanyard tucked under it. If a single fold of that chute had caught some air, he would have been outta there! The Kadet's big tires and springy gear gave him a fairly smooth ride on takeoff.
Funny thing is that I was sure the plane would be a bit tailheavy, but it was just the opposite. It was past the point of no return, tail-high blasting across the yard, when I pegged full-up elevator, and got an anemic rotation that had me guessing whether to go over or under the powerlines that always wait for me out there. Hung a bit to the left and made a wide arc out across the pasture like a big goofy pylon racer. Popeye hung in there though.
When I finally got to 'jump altitude', I pulled the plane up into what was supposed to be a loop to dump Popeye, but it turned into a vertical, tail-standing stall when I ran out of elevator. The plane flopped forward, with Popeye tumbling out and down (or up) the Kadet's back in the temporary '0-G'. Of course, this DID give me some added video footage of the plane as he bounced and dangled around back there.
Gonna move his coffin a bit aft before we go again.
Adventures on the hill....

Popeye fun fly? Now I’ve heard everything.
Good stuff Kim! Popeye’s chin does double as a butt!
I am surprised he stayed put in the box during the climb.

Re: Popeye goes Sky Diving...the Movie
About 10 years ago, I bought a RC skydiver from a guy who custom made them(out of business now). He has a servo on each arm, pulls the rip cord, and steers the canopy by RC just like a real one. The airplane radio drops him with a servo and the diver has his own radio/pilot. The canopy was sewn from dacron material and matches the covering scheme on the Kadet Senior I was using as a drop plane. That plane was damaged badly years ago and the RC skydiver has been idle ever since. I need to check it all out and see about setting up another drop plane someday. One of the problems I had was wind. He canopy would float backward with a very small breeze and there is usually a large breeze here on the TX coast. I would bring him to small, but any plane large enough to carry him up is not SMALL enough.

Great video. The only things that might need attention are one of two things. Either Popeye needs skydiving lessons on how to jump from a plane, or Popeye needs a powered ejection seat.... Lol. Anyways, great as usual. Thanks for sharing again.

Thanks! I'm figuring his next 'exit' will be a little cleaner if the plane is properly balanced, and lets me get it into a real loop.
Well see !

That part was very good yes. The video editing was very well done. I have never done anything like that befor myself. I wonder if 'someone' should have a video editing class here for those like me that would try it but have no clue....

I agree with Chancey. Many of you post videos that you have produced.. that are really enjoyable to watch. Multiple cameras.. slo-mo.. fade-in/out.. text.. audio-dubbing.. I'd love to learn some "how-to". Maybe make a video-tutorial "sticky" with tips on software.. and such. The tiny little video-cameras are affordable enough for anybody to have at least one.
Re: Popeye goes Sky Diving...the Movie
I'm flattered! I could start a thread so we could have a back and forth conversation about the videos. As far as editing, the tools I use are already on most computers, though I did early-on, spend some money on programs from Best Buy, which I never could make work. I've gotten used to using 'Windows Movie Maker', 'Paint', and the 'Snipping Tool' to capture still photos from videos.
