That's what I'm calling what just happened here.. Been threatening all day today. Mains are down but cable has continuity.. Smile LED assist-spotlight.. JOY! Break-out the B & D inverter to test my 22AH 12V battery.. connect equipment.. JOY!

Prior to losing power.. I was watching in AWE Shocked out the back-slider door as the trees swayed.. and rain fell like a wall of water. I watched as it blew-over my two tomato-plants in 5gal. buckets.. then a bolt of lightning and BIG BANG killed the mains...

I must say that I was quite pleased with myself.. for being able to get my internet-connection up and running. It's kind of like "camping-out"! Laughing

Hey Roddie, I've been watching a lot of crazy, unsettled
"stuff" passing W/E to the north, since about 2:00p.
Saw lots of bolts on the other side of the sound.
Nothing here, but a few drops. Small line headed our way
in a few hours. Hope you can enjoy, without any damage.
Haven't had a good one in a while here.

Thanks brother Kim! The power was restored around 9pm.. My small 22AH 12V battery hung in there powering the inverter/CATV equipment for a few hours.. before I decided to connect to my vehicle-battery. That's when I had issues. It worked fine without the engine running.. but I had a full tank of fuel and didn't want to run the battery down too low. Starting the engine with the inverter connected killed the power. I assume it's an overload-protection thing.. but I had to disconnect and re-connect to the battery to reset the inverter. Shutting-off the inverter's power-switch and turning it back on wouldn't work. It's pouring.. and I'm wrestling with an umbrella and a power-inverter and its associated cables.. At least I didn't blow the fuse in the process. This happened with two different 500W inverters that I tried. After a few hours when the local-power was restored,  I went outside to disconnect the inverter. I shut-off the car-engine.. and the inverter's cooling-fan was running. The inverter was pretty HOT! I was probably coming close to its 500W rating with the extension-cord I was using.. and the equipment I was powering. I had a 3-wire extension-cord running from the inverter/vehicle in-through a window into the house, splitting-off to another 3-wire extension to power the CATV equipment/router in the basement. Add to that.. my laptop.. my "wife's" laptop and one lighting-fixture with a 60W CFL lamp upstairs for "her"... That's quite a load for a single 500W inverter.. but it did the job. During my "issues" with getting it to power-up in the pouring-rain.. "Lynne" is telling me that we should get a generator... because we have well-water and can't flush the toilet.. Rolling Eyes Really??? Here's a 5gal. bucket babe.. scoop some water out of the swimming-pool. "If it's yellow.. let it mellow.. if it's brown.. flush it down".. Laughing

Bob.. we had a "hum-dinger" here... Since that 75' oak came down on our shed last month.. I get a little nervous when I see the big trees out-back behind the house swaying-wildly... and they "were" this afternoon. Other than the loss of power; this storm thankfully was uneventful.
