Re: I finally pulled it off at Triple Tree
I finally pulled it off at Triple Tree today! That Cardinal with an old black and blue LA .46 and a 12x4 prop is a fighter, a really good plane to fly on a windy day. First round was slick as Ice, just a sweet gentle breeze from the South… thank goodness, but I wore my big dark glasses anyway. That’s the round I sealed it with.
That big etched glass 1st place trophy is a beauty.
I gotta wait till later to post a report, but I had to tell somebody Lol.
Later,
Rusty

Re: I finally pulled it off at Triple Tree
Thanks Dudes. I got a lot of material, even one of my flights. As usual, the wind whipped second flight. I drew 1st twice today . So I didn't have time to screw with the camera for first round.
Here's a video, it'll be hot in a few minutes. Don't expect to be dazzled, it's not pretty. The first was the good one... I know how lame that sounds.
https://youtu.be/Gbcvb_XYNNo
That vertical 8 got clobbered up top and forced way low. So when I had to recover, instead of finishing it above where the goof took it, I flew it back underneath to complete some semblance of a bottom loop and then the top loop could follow the same track as the first top loop. Without abandoning the form of a loop completely. Much less points deduction that way. If I hadn't connected the dots I would have lost 25 pattern points.

It's 1/2" thick glass with a slight green tint, laser etched on the back, but you can't tell it's on the back. About 10" diagonal. The 3rd place one I got 2 weeks ago is pretty darn nice too, my club changed from the phallic airplane profiles. I'll look and see if I posted it, if not, I'll put it in that thread.
And just for the record... I would not have beaten Mike today unless he had the Flu.
Movie's up now.

Time and distance prevails - Rusty.
I didn't get to see this until I got back from flying this morning. For me - you are a marvelous example of someone to aspire towards in seeing your progression.
I miss the 2 stroke sound (although I prefer my engines to bark!) but I can't imagine the neighbourhood being too pleased with me at 5 am this morning!
How far away was the camera from you?

Re: I finally pulled it off at Triple Tree
Thanks everyone. And I really mean it, I appreciate all the personal accolades, it helps me shake off being my own worst critic. And it's no secret I am a sap for attention. I guess that makes me a ham Lol. I'm not sure my winning flight was any better than my best flight at Huntersville, but being still in contest mode after two weeks helped my focus. I guess I was warmed up. All I had to do is throw my plane and flight box in the car and go fly, without all the contingency planning and equipment that divides my attention before Huntersville.
The only thing restraining complete fulfillment is that I only had to beat one guy. Eight or 10 people fly in Advanced and as I watch them, it's painfully evident that 3 or 4 should still be in Intermediate. Not being mean, but really. I don't belong there yet, so that's my next goal. I look forward to the morning I wake up and check in at CEF and see that I'm getting showered with congrats for doing well in an Advanced contest. I always have that nagging knowledge that any contest may be my last one, so I just get as much out of it as I can.
Meanwhile I'll do as Kari says, and Rock on.
I guess the camera was about 60 feet from the edge of the circle and not zoomed in at all. I usually get closer but I wanted to get more of the circle than just under the pilot's feet like I usually do. It's my Samsung point and shoot pocket cam, probably 5 years old. I bought it right after I did my first loop with the Jumpin' Bean in the church yard.

Re: I finally pulled it off at Triple Tree
It ruled yesterday, Marley. That old beat up Cardinal with toothpicks holding the hinges together is a Warrior. In fact, maybe I'll paste that on it somewhere. I bet watching my videos on a phone is like watching a gnat fly, but it hides some of the bumps. "Skill-Envious" Kim, really. You have RC skills that blow most people off the runway! And very adequate CL skills. All I did is pack the skills into one repetitive routine that I do over and over.
