Re: First control line flights in 40+ years
Yep, I got the files in Dropbox. It first showed up as empty, but they must've still been uploading. Now I'm happily reading, and glad to have learned a couple of critical points. Thanks a zillion, Ian, You da man.
I doubt if anything I have posted so far on the Nobler is of use to you. All I've done is to start affixing the new wing including flaps to the new fuselage. I sleeved the long control rod(3/32" music wire) with CF tube to arrest any flex. And I bought new Sullivan threaded clevises and solder couplers for each end since the old hardware was flimsy.
Since I now know you're interested, I'll post any details I feel may be of use. Other than the elevator rod, I don't get the impression of flimsy, except for the spar. I'll probably build-in a support for my new longer bellcrank bolt, which will reinforce the top spar's center as a secondary benefit. See my Twister build for exact details on that. However, after the wing is glued into the fuselage, the center portion of the spar doesn't take significant force. That all happens at the root.
Use a hot razor knife to remove enough of the covering on the wing and sides of the fuselage for a fillet made of epoxy and filler, to be added after the wing/fuse joint has set. The hot knife helps to not score the center sheeting, which is Very structurally critical at the root joint. I use glass microballoons and make it as thin as you can, but just enough to be able to shape it.
