Cox Engine of The Month

I've become a collector (Just crept up on me!)
As I said in a previous post, this forum has currupted me into becoming a collector, I'm buying Cox engines I don't need!
Unfortunately I now have all the Cox variants that I can afford, TDs, Spacehoppers etc. are out of the question, being totally out of my price range, even scrappers go for silly money, so, to assuage this 'ere collecting bug, I will have to branch out into, dare I say it? non-Cox engines!
I have acquired a couple of models of Wen Mac .049s off US Ebay for $2.50 each (That's MY sort of price!) these are another reminder of my youth, EVERYONE had a Wen Mac back then, but my request is, does anyone know of other old engines around the .049 size range that are still available for sensible prices?
I know the high-powered collectors buy up most of what's available and push prices up, but there must be something around?
Wilf

Frogs sometimes,
A replica mills can be had for $50.
Ok cubs go cheap as do spitfires and loads of US only cox deals.
McCoy some PAWs DC spitfire javelin etc sometimes it varies a lot.
Average DC bantam price is between 10 and 30 pounds used.

I've never seen any DCs go for sensible prices, not even scrappers, and all the Bantams I've seen go for nearer the £30 than the £10! and I aint payin 30 quid for a Bantam!
McCoys & Cubs may be in my range I think, but most are US only

How about a Enya .19???
I have been asking everyone, I know. He may not even have it available anymore...

Feel free to correct me Mud but I would estimate it to be from 1958-1962 somewhere right around there.
Re: I've become a collector (Just crept up on me!)
Nice Golden Bee, it's definitely a early one, I'm going to say '58-'59. It looks like it has the early light color plating on the backplate and the pink/gold anodizing.
If someone wanted to start collecting 1/2a's there's a gold mine of varieties, I've cataloged, over the last ten years probably 90% of them on my web site and still got a long way to go. I was luck to meet up with one of the most knowledgeable Wen-mac collector there is and have the breakdown of all twenty-seven (pre-Testors) models. O.K. Cub are a lot of fun too....and their also fairly cheep!

Me too
We may have to start a support group to assuage the grief of being outbid and thereby deprived by the high rollers
MarkB, I have an old wenmac, I havn`t seen it in 25 years, but it basically looked like your first pic but not as shiny. It had a red 3 blade prop and matching spinner. It was on an old red plastic lower fuse half with a single tiny nose wheel landing gear.
I have no idea of any other details about its origins, or where I put it back in the day

Well, if there is a engine you want, MAKE THE OTHER PERSON PAY FOR IT! It is funny how I always seem to get outbid in the last 10 seconds of the auction, you just don't have enough reaction time to fight that last bid
So I start sniping auctions but it always happens to be an auction where the other bidder has a higher max bid...
What really makes me is when the auction timer counts down to 0:00 and the auction ends with a "You lost the auction" when you were clearly the highest bidder before it hit zero. I think when that happens, it is usually a sniping application that was used.
Re: I've become a collector (Just crept up on me!)
Yep, if you really want something on eBay you almost need to sign up for esnipe or a similar type, set it for 3 or 4 seconds before end of auction and then get back to whatever you were doing.
I love it when I'm watching something and I forget to bid (or load it on esnipe) and it sells cheep, but often its because you're not bidding on it and nobodys there to raise price and sometimes your the only one that sees the value!

I never got one of those sniping progs to work for me, though obviously they do for others. My only solace when out-bid at the last minute is thinking "Well, at least I made the B******d pay a lot more than he might have done!"

ok guys fess up....
Whats your COX collection`s pride and joy??
I will start:
Mine is 3 fold.
#1, The best is a mint condition, unbuilt cox r/c cessna skylane 182 ( circa mid `80`s) still has the mint 049 in the nose(yes I did open it up enough to drop some light oil in the case/cylinder) and the 2ch cox/sanwa radio system boxed up with it.
#2, mint cond. radio controlled cub trainer,(circa `78 or so) still originally packed in the box, with single channel cox/sanwa single channel system.Same goes for the peewee020 as above.
I just cannot bear to fly them into the innevitable crashes they would certainly face at my very poor flying skill level these days.
#3 will be the first of my "collection" to be flown, an old cox cessna centurion (circa `78 or so) near mint condition, mint 049 on the nose, awaiting a radio system and me to get back my flying skills of old
Who is next?? come on guys, make me druel and want 1 too

#1, The Cox skyjumper freeflight helicopter that I bought in 96'. That is why I am into Cox at the moment. Sadly i lost the door and the parachute. So if someone have one laying around somewhere
#2, 80's Cox Nissan GTP .049 with sidewinder radio, still sealed.
#3 Cox Venom '95
#4 The Tee Dee .049 nib that my girlfriend won all by herself trough ebay for my 24th birthday. And when you are in the netherlands, that is a big deal!
Re: I've become a collector (Just crept up on me!)
Speaking of OK cubs does anyone know where I can get a diesel head for one?

If you like something on Ebay you almost have to snipe it. Folks will walk the big up a little at a time. I hope the bid stays low and snipe in the last seconds, most of the time you pay much less
than your snipe price.

Re: I've become a collector (Just crept up on me!)
I've won a few auctions waiting until the 10 second mark. I've only tried a few times. My best win was 2 NIB Black Widows and a 4 ounce Dubro tank for a total of $62. I was really happy about that.

I myself have a very obsessive personality, lately I am trying to whittle down on that. I have always bought and sold cars and motorcycles until one day my wife gave me a reality check and I realized I cannot possibly restore what I have in the time I have left on the earth. Nowadays I have a 1958 MGA and a Triumph T150. The honda is for the wife but, it's usually me that hit's the trails with it. I don 't count my daily driver which is a 1972 Dodge short stepside.
For a while I was going overboard on AFX slot cars so I cut myself off. I seem to be drawn to things that I had as a kid and was unable to get back then.
Anyway more to the point! If you haven't already figured out, you can be real creative with your auction searches and find really good deals as things are mis-listed all the time. the kicker is the amount of time spent looking. Good luck with your obsession maybe Jacob needs to start a support group section for those who have lost their jobs, wives etc. While searching to find that one last Cox engine!

Well there is one for "clan .24cc" owners because people see the engines as hard to start.
I just rise above it :)I posted this video and people accused the engine of running "English"
Just 'cause they can't start theirs
