The 2nd annual informal SMALL West  - Cox .049 RC Gathering, took place yesterday at Apollo Field in Van Nuys, CA. The largest RC 1/2A event on the West Coast and possibly in the U.S.....yesterday! Wink Very Happy  RC Plane

We had a picture perfect flying day and lots of interest by many RC pilots and spectators young and old. Our good friend Corey joined my daughter and I once again for this all day 1/2A RC fun fly. A great warm up for SMALL and we will do it again in two weeks. Smile

Keep those Cox engine running at your local field. Wink  Babe Bee .049

Well I hope we can have a equal turnout for 1/2A on the east coast here. The Philadelphia Northeast R/C club is going to have a 1/2A day devoted to control line and R/C. So far I'm seeing a lot of old hardware getting freshened up for the day which will be held in the spring. I'm repairing and getting enginesl ready. I'm bringing it all out from Cox to Shuriken's. I have to thank the Metrolina gang for their efforts as well. Rusty showing off his 1/2A awards made a big hit here at home. Stay tuned. Ken

That's a really cool looking group of planes.  Can you please tell us about the PT-19?

fit90-It's an old Wattage PT-19 given to me by AMA Hall of Famer Tony Naccarato Jr. several months ago to convert to 1/2A glow, after he learned that I'm still flying 1/2A today. Naccarato has been flying 1/2A control line for more than 50 years and is still flying 1/2A today. He's a giant in model aviation, especially here in Southern California, so I'm looking forward to having Tony fly it soon.

I've installed an .049 TD w/throttle sleeve and 2oz. tank. I had a few issues, so haven't flown the maiden yet.

Here's a few photos:

Thank you for the info. That is a great looking model. I hope it is a great flying plane for you. I am also jealous that your daughter share your interest in R/C. I have been working on my daughter for all of her fifteen years with only a few spits and sputters of interest. Maybe some day.

fit90-My daughter is an Air Force Brat and loves aviation, so I lucked out I guess. Smile Watching her fly the Cox Cessna 182 Skylane yesterday was the highlight of the day for me.

1/2A Nut - My daughter, who normally shoots flying pics and video was a pit crew member and pilot, no flying pics or video.

I'm digging this photo for Corey "Scale" Dail refueling his Cox .049 TD bird in the middle of all those electric models. A Diehard Old School Modeler and great friend. Good times!

SMALL West 2016 (Session two) took place yesterday at the Canyon Crosswinds Field in Castaic, CA with a solid 6 hours of flying. Even my daughter Evelyn flew several times, in between shooting some videos of all the fun. I'll try to get them up today.

Andras- Come join us! Smile

We call it SMALL West for fun but it's really only me, my daughter and our good friend Corey flying. Hopefully, more will join us out west but if not, we'll keep representing the 1/2A community. Smile

Here's the first video by my daughter Evelyn. Excuse the wind noise and a little Cox engine oil spray on the lens:

akjgardner- Thank you for your kind words. I've raised Evelyn completely on my own since she was 18 months old, now 16 years old. Evelyn is the greatest blessing in my life and she just loves model aviation and of course, Cox engines.

I'll be posting a video of Evelyn flying her Cox Cessna Skylane.

That's just great. I hope she sticks with it. Sure, her friends won't get it at all, but she has developed skills that they never will.
Hold firm to that and enjoy your times with her.

Man!!!! You made me really jealous with this beautiful flight video. ...and that flying field in Southern California. . Very Happy

What kind of camera did you use? It must have way more serious optics than my head mounted Sony...the plane simply remains visible.

Your Lilstik is the big brother of mine with a span of 16 inches at the spar. ...how much is yours?

Thank you Andras! Let me know when you're in SoCal....you're more than welcome to fly any of our planes. Smile

The camera is a Canon SX500 IS and my daughter did a great job. Unfortunately, Hobby King no longer sells the Mini Stick ARF which was $34, but they still carry the kit which is $17. Fun little plane.
