How to Identify a Tee Dee 049 vs Tee Dee 051
Greetings! Now I'm quite sure there will be many who think I'm crazy but how does one identify between these two engines? What are the obvious markings, colors, shapes, etceteras?? I've seen on this site where there are those who can modify/build engines using the various parts thus how would one know what is being offered with a reasonable degree of certainty?? Thanks for your patience.

The 051 has a red carb body and a shallow groove machined in the bottom of the piston skirt. The 049 has black Carb body and plain piston with no groove.

And of course, since the black and red carb bodies are interchangeable, the groove on the lower piston skirt is the only definite telltale.

And the grooved .051 piston will only fit into the cylinder stamped with #5.
