Sounds like he will be alright which is good to hear.
Re: Harrison Ford Injured In Plane Crash
"Something caused it to drop out of the sky" Hmmm... Reporters are such idiots.
The damage shows that Ford did a great job of getting the PT-22 into a tight space after an engine failure. Good piloting on his part. We'll see what the later reports say were the cause of the engine out. I've always admired the job Ford has done in promoting General Aviation. He's been a great friend of pilots for years.
I also love reading the stupid comments people make. One pilot saying how dangerous vintage planes are, and how a newer plane like a King Air wouldn't have had the same problem.... The only advantage a newer plane would have is a newer engine. The King Air still uses riveted aluminum for construction and cable activated control surfaces. Just goes to confirm something I've noticed about a great many modern pilots: They have no clue about how airplanes are constructed or how they work.
I love vintage airplanes, and have been an EAA member since I got out on my own.

I'm glad to hear that Harrison Ford wasn't fatally injured. Unfortunately, Kim now has to come out of retirement for this repair.

I used to live near the accident site on
Ocean Park blvd. I was a regular rat there.
As you can see, the golf course is close to
the airport-SMO, on the usual departure end.

During an interview with Harrison's former Co-Pilot, the Wookie said the craft had not achieved the proper velocity to engage the HyperDrive and it " fell from the sky"

Tell me about it, I'm an A&P that specializes in light sport, experimental and light GA and I hear all kinds of stuff about older aircraft. People fail to realize that the older aircraft (when properly kept up) can and are as safe if not safer than modern aircraft (simple aircraft less to break and fail) also the radial is as safe as a modern recip horizontally opposed engine. Experimental aircraft are just as safe as well. I personally enjoy working on luscombe's J3 cubs, champs and the like, No electrical systems make it so simple. Re: Harrison Ford Injured In Plane Crash
Not a fire hazard, eh. My buddy Wayne the FAA accident investigator says most crashes are due to too much oxygen in the tank. AKA no gas. Maybe that's why it was not a fire hazard.
Pilots should check the fuel and oil level just as electricians personally check the breaker. Your life depends on it.

Re: Harrison Ford Injured In Plane Crash
Yeah, one commentator called it a WW2 fighter plane. Another was wondering if the gear was up or down when it crashed. When I first saw it my mind immediately went to Kim's friend in a very similar accident.
How many of us didn't see our iconic Cox PT-19 pancaked there.... What a beautiful aircraft, such a shame as it has to be totaled. Nothing but good to say about his flying though. Happy that ole' Indiana Jones is ok though.

Idiots, and World-Class, Lazy Sensationalists to boot. Never bother with actual research and education when you can sling stupid cliches instead. Even Capt Sully's 'reports' have to be dumbed-down so the knuckle-draggers will keep watching.
Looks like, with a few seconds to pick a spot, Harrison tucked that puppy in right where he needed it to go.
It DOES serve to give a guy a base-line on how much respect the rest of their stuff deserves.
Hope they bring back Brian Williams...at least his BS was entertaining....

I miss Williams too, he was always described as one of us. He didn't need to inflate his personna, but who among us has never exaggerated a circumstance. But his was a pretty big one and for all the world to see. A half years pay is tough to take for anybody.
I just hope that Ford's accident doesn't involve a fuel transfer mistake like the one that took John Denver while flying a canard off the Ca coast. What was that a Long EZ?

Cool got a friend with a challenger, is your's the clipped version? and what engine Rotax 503 or 582? The challenger is a nice aircraft infact i've just finished doing a condition inspection on one. (Bandit)batjac wrote:TDbandit wrote:

Yeah, he apparently ran a tank dry, and was trying to go to another, using a control positioned over his shoulder, and 'Stopped flying the plane'.
Don't have any personal experience with the engine, but have always heard that the little Kinner Radials could be cranky...

Totaled? Nah! A few spare parts, some metal polish, and she's good to go for another 70 years...

Nah. It's a long wing with low side rails. I'm a big guy, and trying to get over that high side rail when the tail is sitting on the ground is a major pain. Having a few extra squares also helps haul my big butt around the sky. Since it's never going to go on floats, a 582 would have been needless overkill. A 503 does great for tooling around boring holes. Still, I was considering the 582, just for the extra oomph, but when I was ordering the kit, Sandy at the factory told me it would be a waste of money since it's going to have wheels for its entire life.
Here's my first Challenger:

Re: Harrison Ford Injured In Plane Crash
Excellent flying machine Mark. Think we still have a short-winger based at my airport, along with a cool smattering of Cubs and Champs. One of my buds owns a Champ AND a Cassutt Racer (BOTH easily fit in his single T hangar), so he's got both ends of the performance envelope covered.
I highly envy his ability to fit in that little Cassutt...one reason I'm not very tolerant of dudes with little man syndrome! I'd have to have surgery to get into that rocket.
