I am not fighting but trying to help. I did not know you are using a ready board, sorry. In case you are, no problems. Use any. Even when burns, they are so inexpensive, you can put another. Since they are just a dollar, you may get a few of them just in cases.
I think you would be able to get 5A,12V with your design. A good idea is not to go to the top of the possibilities, though, so 3A is OK.
Just clicked the link and looked at the pctures. You are right. This is a ready product which uses the IC and is very inexpensive. Will work perfectly. You can also plug a standard 12V car USB convrrter and you can have 12V as well as 5VUSB. With your power, you can plug tons of USB devices as well as 12V devices simultaneously. Well done!

it is the black squar with 470 on it (470uH)
it does not need a heatsing becaus it is designed for3A max
if i would heve bought the 5A version it does need a heatsinkrobot797 wrote:again there is an inductor onboard
pleas klik the link
you will see a pcb not a chip
and then you get what i am saying
i tried to tell you
if you just had done kliked the link
but that is why i didnt wanna fight about it (yea i know it is a discusion)
Sorry. I have been on a cell phone. Everything got mixed up.
I think they should not use the IC name for their board name but this is not our fault. Sorry.
However, you must realise I like your project and will never fight you. Also the more unsuccessful I am the more I like your design. When I am successful, I also like your design because your design is better and more customer friendly as well as more compact in size and more customer friendly.
Re: Micro 12VDC Generator with a Cox .049 Sure Start Diesel Engine
thank you
somtimes the easy road is the one best walked
i could design my own inverter
but why would i some china man did it for me
and he made it so cheap that stealing it would make it more expencive
if it seems i can get more power from it i will upgrade to a 5A (or 10A) version

i just saw this reply
dont feel bad
to be honnest i started working on mine becaus you started working on one
i slaped it together in around 1.5 week (2 weeks becaus of preplanning)
just becaus i was challanged
just 2 weeks ago it did use an external tank
if you did not come allong the project would not have started for 1 a 2 years
and it would not have looked as good
my point you were my muse for building mine faster
and for your project
why dont you try a diverent approce
try rubber wheels insted of a belt
the dynamo on rails
just press the wheels togetter and it works
it makes it smaller then belts and it does not wear as fast

This is an excellent approach. Use 3A to get the things working. Then, you can always get a regulator for more A.

Thank you for the good words. You found the worst person in the world to use as a muse, though.
I got a 1L tank for a child bike from AliExpress. The position of the nipple is important : too high may flood the engine. The volume of the fuel and the gravity pushes more fuel. Too low, the suction may not pump fuel in and may be amount of fuel dependent.
I also got an external needle valve and barb hoses from AliExpress to regulate and shut down the fuel.
I hope I remember to post the links.
Your idea for rubber wheels instead of a belt is the best for this project. No accuracy needed. No belt jumos when released. I can even use only one wheel on the engine and use the axel, rotor, of the dynamo.
Moving the dynamo is nasty but the easiest as compared with other ways. Spring would also be easy.
I will definitely consider.
Re: Micro 12VDC Generator with a Cox .049 Sure Start Diesel Engine
i just places the tank were i thought it looked good
and in my engine it worked perfectly
ps after i removed the factory defect in my engine
(it had 2 reeds stacked ontop of eachother)
i have been able to start it on nitro
it runs so fast that my dynamo started arcing
wont do that again
but fun to try

How did you run the engine on Nitro? Do you have a glow plug head?
Re: Micro 12VDC Generator with a Cox .049 Sure Start Diesel Engine
i have no planes but like 10 or 15 cox engine
i once even build a hovercraft out one of them
but yea i swaped the diesel head for a glow head
and started it on my normal way
ps this is also the perfect way to find the setting of the engine (needle)

The setting depends on the density of the fuel and the response of the engine depends on the fuel but they are oretty much the same or scaled. Good this engine works with a glow head, so I can always switch. What Nitri fuel have you used?

V Name : Cox .049 RC Diesel Engine
Web Page : http://coxengines.ca/cox-.049-rc-diesel-engine.html
Quantity : 1
Price per Unit : $59.95
Notes : Must come with Cox standard backplate with independent and fully adjustable analogue mechanical needle valves for air and fuel.
Requirements and Customisation : IMPORTANT : The engine must rotate in the direction in which the air resistance of the propeller TIGHTENS the propeller screw and not the other way around. The best way to check this is : hold the propeller screw with one hand and turn the engine in the direction in which the engine rotates while working after the spring start. In case the propeller screw tightens, this is the correct direction and thread. The same can be seen by energising the starter spring : untighten the propeller screws a few turn and start to energise the spring : in case the propeller screw tightens, this is OK. For a normal thread screw, the engine must turn counter clockwise. Cox International are kindly asked to provide their biggest mixture nipple and crankcase pump hole to reduce the resistance to the crankcase pump of the double stroke engine of the incoming mixture of fuel and air ( or to enlarge the standard hole and or nipple diameter in case unable to provide new and possible ). Cox International are kindly asked to provide their largest hole needle air and fuel valves ( or to enlarge them in case possible ) in order to reduce the resistance to the crankcase pump of the double stroke engine of the incoming mixture of fuel and air.

I have just posted the bill of materials of most but not all of the components I have purchased. Some recent purchases, such as the 8cm O ring belts have not been included.
The post, however, gives you links in case you would like to purchase some of these or similar parts.
The post is divided into two major points : Non Cox parts and Cox parts. In case I refer to the propeller as 3.5 inch, this is a mistake. The correct one is 3.125 inch.
As discussed, I would like to strongly encourage you to get an external needle valve and barb hose connectors. You will not need to rely on the engine Fuel Needle Valve to shut down the gas supply. Also, you can regulate the pressure which the tank puts.
In case you have an external tank which is directly connected to the engine, although there are other dependencies such as how you take the fuel, from the top or from the bottom, the recommended by Cox rule of thumb is to position the fuel nipple at the level of the middle of the crankcase. Again, this is only for Cox tanks where the fuel is taken from the bottom but through the top. Should be OK with tanks with a nipple at the bottom.
Also, the fuel line must be shorter than or equal to 10cm and must be the Cox fuel line. In case you are unable to fit the ox fuel line to the tank, use the Cox fuel line ( < = 10cm ) and a brass or copper pipe connector ( I cut from Cox tank brass pipes ) and a hose which fits the tank. Put the connector between the Cox fuel line and the hose and tighten the hose at the connector. This way, the only place you can get a fuel leak is the connector. I used heat shrinks to make the hose part of the brass pipe thicker and then I tightened the hose with a copper wire.
Be advised, some people say, only the special neoprene Cox fuel line must touch the fuel. However, the silicon hose I use is automotive industry certified for all kind of car fuels. I figured Ether and Kerosene are not so different. The same applies for the material of the tank. Some people say the RC diesel fuel may dissolve silicon and some plastics which gasoline and diesel do not. Keep into account.
I am not sure but I think I have seen on your videos a clear hose going into your engine. I am not sure how you have managed to fit this when the engine fuel intake pipe is 2mm and there is no room around.
You have complained from a leaky fuel line on your video and I have now realised this may be because of the thicker and wider diameter hose you have put on the engine intake pipe. The brass pipe connecting I have explained will definitely solve your problem.
Someone has also expressed worries of the longer than necessary fuel line I use between the tank and the engine. Although this has been also made longer before I positioned the tank, the main reason for not cutting the liner more is because I want to avoid sharp turns around the nipples and everywhere else.
Hope I can help.
Interesting Non Cox YouTube Links
Some of the features, such as remote start, apply to Cox whoever wants to explore them. I, personally, have not been able to start the engine with a 2500 RPM electric drill. Probably, higher RPM are necessary. I have also not been able to start the engine with manual rotation of the propeller. I have also seen but not found any crank or pull up starter for the engine.

hpi is a rc car maker
and they have there own fuel
http://www.hpiracing.com/en/part/101904
i used an external tank when testing
it was level with the engine so i did not need extra needles or regulators
my new tank is a onboard tank
it has a 1.5cm fuel line that comes from under the engine
the fuel line is not vissable becaus it runs troiugh the backplate and chassis of the generator
a pain to put togetter but awsome when it fits
i have run a cox engine with a fuel line of 20cm but everything was level
and for silicon fuel lines
NEVER use it
it swells and gets lose
neopreme is the only thing to use on all other fuels then nitro
the clear hose in the video was an exhaust expell hose
(pressed on the exhaust to redirect the dripping oil)
and for the leaky fuel line
it later became clear that it was a clog in my needle assembely
some old castor gunk from my fueltank plugged my needle valve
and for the brass pipe i dont have room to put that in
my fuel line btw is some weird old line that is part silicone and part neopreme
it gets a little lose when it touches diesel for 2 a 5 hours
but that is so little that it can be forgotten
to be honnes i even like the effect
soak the line in diesel assemble the engine and then wait and the hose tightens itself around the coupelings
and after that it never touches diesel on those places and it stays put

i tried but i cant for now
my flywheen does not have the grip pattern round the side like a dummas flywheel has
i start my cox boat by flicking the flywheel (putting my tumb on it and pull it down or up depen ds how i feel)
it i were to have a custom flywheel i would add the gripp edge then i could start it by hand

i have run a cox engine with a fuel line of 20cm but everything was level
and for silicon fuel lines
I do not understand what you mean by 1.5cm fuel line. The diameter of yout fuel line must be lower than 2mm to fit over the intake pipe. Probably you mean 1.5cm length.
AUTOMOTIVE Silicin Lines are OK as long as they do not get disolved by Ether and Kerosene. To connect them to Cox fuel line, use brass pipe connectors from Cox, 2mm.
You DO need an external needle valve to shut down the fuel supply. The engine fuel needle valve is not sufficient.

my flywheen does not have the grip pattern round the side like a dummas flywheel has
i start my cox boat by flicking the flywheel (putting my tumb on it and pull it down or up depen ds how i feel)
it i were to have a custom flywheel i would add the gripp edge then i could start it by hand7
ALL YOU NEED IS A GLOVE. PLEASE, TRY. THIS IS IMPORTANT.
Re: Micro 12VDC Generator with a Cox .049 Sure Start Diesel Engine
naa i never use a glove
burns and cuts prove that i am a man!
i cant find the fuel line i use but it looks like this (green)

and it is 1.5cm in length
and i never close my fuel line
i just reduce compression untill it shuts off and then i turn it upside down and drain the tank
keeps the fuel line clean and the tank clean

Then you will benefit from a valve :You just shut the valve off and may or may not open another air valve to allow air in the line. The fuel will burn, the engine will shut down and you will have a clean dry fuel line with a reliably blocked tank.
Please, for your own good, try to start the engine by hand with a glove. This is to be a very important advantage for your design.

Why gloves ?
And I don't have room for a valve
