Is that a Cox International screw? I've gotten backplate screws from them that were too long. I had to grind them down a little.ideeman1994 wrote:nitroairplane wrote:Nice but i just noticed there is a washer there.

Yes it is... But I think something is wrong with the crankshaft threads...
Re: It's time for "Cox engine of the month" again.ENTRY CLOSED
Oh well, It works just fine like that, already had quite a few tanks through it, and nothing broke
Re: It's time for "Cox engine of the month" again.ENTRY CLOSED
OK just watch out hat the prop doesn't fly off in action.

Don`t make me do it lol
Don`t make me throw an entry in thats a little out of the ordinary here!! lol
I like kim`s, it has real character, not just that "yeah, its new" or "yeah, its used" , but the "wartime" kind of character, like scars do lol
Hay, ideeman1994, don`t those use the killerbee (softer)cranks that can be stripped out easily/easier than std. cranks? be cautious man, I`d strip it for sure by accident lol I can`t wait to fetch mine tomorrow lol

I thought Killer Bee cranks were Hardened steel?
I`m pretty sure
I`m pretty sure I read somewhere that a guy stripped his out while going to his "normal" tight for the coxes, and bernie himself replied that it was because they are intentionally slightly "softer" steel than the other cox cranks.

Stuka War-Dog!!
Looks more like a junkyard dog to me -- rough around the edges, scarred, tattered ear and a broken tooth. But, it does have character. Still can't figure out how that "thing" ever ran.

Thanks! Only problem was the wire landing gear was bent WAY back, and made the plane super-prone to tip over on take-off OR landing. Got a new wing from Joe (classic Plastic gear) and think it should make a difference. Plus, my Uncle Wayne is after me to fly his original Stuka, so there may be video of that also.
Later !

Yep...he's still kick'n ! The problem with my flying his Stuka is that the area immediately behind the engine has suffered from old fuel, and the heat fatigue of hanging close to the ceiling in his house for 30 years. The plastic sleeves/screw guides have turned to crumbs. I'll have to replace them with copper tubing, and run a threaded rod all the way through the body with nuts on either end. Plus, the plane has tremendous sentimental value for me, so the idea of flying it is a mixed bit of enthusiasm. I've got it parked in my shop where I can see it from my work table.
Also, you may be glad to hear that I'm actually gonna put a new case gasket and Mylar reed in the "War Dog" ! Might have to wire the canopies shut to keep from losing them !
