Cox Engine of The Month
In for a penny, in for a Stuka

In for a penny, in for a Stuka
Well after all the posts lately about the Stuka and having wanted one ever since I was a kid I could resist no longer and took the plunge which also had the effect of doubling my Cox plane collection in one swoop (this forum is sooooo dangerous ).
It arrived yesterday and apart from missing a few items the plane itself is in very good condition. Some very tiny chips on the right wing tip but otherwise no cracks or warps to be seen. While it was coming I managed to source a complete cockpit with pilots, machine gun and nos wheels and stickers but I guess the bomb will be hard to find so if anyone out there has one they are willing to part with let me know.

Well here it is all finished. Probably could have bought a new in the box for what I spent on it but no fun in that. Since there seems to be quite a few “new in the box” around I figured I didn’t need to return this to 100% original hence the black machine gun and pilots which I personally like better and they were the right price. I did see a complete kit with all the red parts in it but it went for more than I paid for the plane.

Nice restoration, from a grimey mess to super clean.
While not impossible to disassemble/reassemble they can be difficult, I found the need for a third hand when reassembling mine.

Yes I read your stuka post and used a rubber band to assist with assembly which was a big help. They certainly can be a bit fiddly to get back together for the uninitiated.

Nice job! I have the same model with the brass needle valve and two nipple tank but it looks like you have the solid landing gear mounts to the wing, no springs. Where did you get the stickers?

Hi Greg
I got the stickers of eBay. They were new old stock but the adhesive had lost a bit of its stick so I used some gentle pva type glue which seems to have done the trick and they're holding fast so far.

Nice job! I know what you mean, i had to buy a second basket case to complete the first one, but the fun of restoring is value in itself!

Thanks Chellie. It's just going to be a Hanger Queen but if I wanted to see it flying, after watching your video I'd be very happy to let you fly it.
I did a bit of R/C flying years ago but never any C/L so in the best interests of the plane I think I'd best leave it in the cabinet and learn to crash something else.
