Black Hawk Models
Over on stunthanger I read Larry Rice was announcing the close out of the brand.
I know most of us saw the announcement last year about this
Many of you know that my favorite airplane form the 70s was the Dick Mathis Mongoose
Just got off the phone with Larry to order 2 more Mongoose kits now $50 each...Yes he answers the phone on a Saturday!
Larry is 71 and is closing the doors this April so he can spend his end of days with wife and all the kids he helps stay out of gangs. Here is the notice on Stunthanger:
"Black Hawk models is closing down, as we are doing that we are closing out our large laser cut cuts. The Mongoose and the Apocalypse models are .29 tp .40 size models with 300 square inch wing area. These models should have been listed at $70.00 but to promote them we listed them at $60.00 - BUT now until they are sold out they are only $50.00 each. To see these models go to our web site - WWW.BLACKHAWKMODELS.COM and look under the "AC" section of the catalog.
This is a one time sale - when they are gone, they are gone!"
If you ever thought about bouncing up from 1/2a to a large plane for 52 to 60 foot lines, this is a great way to do so with a durable, inexpensive, fast building, forgivable, model that will fly well on a fox 35, McCoy 29-35, or any of the very inexpensive ASP/Magnum 25s and if you have the skill, a hot 35/36 combat engine will drag this bugger over 120MPH! This is a very good plane to learn to trim for stunt training or just fun sport flying.
The laser cut kits are excellent quality, good wood selection, and very good plans and building instructions

Re: Black Hawk Models
Howdy,
I try to go visit with Larry when I can as he is not far away. I make instruction photo logs on Black Hawk Models facebook page for him. For those that don't know Larry was in the USAF then switched to the US Army where he spent many a year. It will be a very sad day when he the door is closed for one last time. I will be speaking to the owner of J.D. Hobbies Sunday to see if he can buy BHM and keep the company here in the greater LA area. If all goes as planned Larry can drive 15min to the new location in San Pedro to visit, grab a cup of coffee, and relax a bit. Myself I am moving my repair shop inside JD Hobbies and will keep flying 1/2a C/L for as long as I can stand. And when I can no longer stand up to fly I will use the Sterling "auto pilot" to watch!

Good going, Brenda, I hope it all works out. I saw a reduced Stunt Rocket advertised somewhere. Do you know if it's a junior size for a 10 or15? I think I better get one while the gettn's good.

Rusty, I am building a Mini-Stunt Rocket right now. It is really cool and it is one of the easiest building built up wing kits I have ever built. It is made for 1/2a. I think I am going to run a Tee Dee on it. Very nice kit. I don't think you will be disappointed. Andy

Re: Black Hawk Models
Thanks Andy, I'll see if one is still available. Hope so. I want a big one too, but I haven't the budget for it right now. Bob Zambelli brought his famous one from BHM's advertisement. He brought it to fly with us recently at the fort. I've had that picture for years before I knew it was him in the picture. He built it all out of fiberglass. He was good friends with Walt Musciano.
