The name actually stands for .55cc (not .055 cubic inch) they also make a .049 (0.8cc) an .061 (1.0cc) engine. The older ones were also beautifully anodized;

Thanks Kris for pointing out my error. I don't know what I was thinking at the time but it is easy to get confused with PAWs. This was a new acquisition and being a chunky diesel I did not do my normal comparison. Slap wrists - I have two more 55s including the Millenium edition.
The naming convention has changed and for example 049 and 06 were formally 80 and 100. The same goes for 09 and 15 being 149 and 249.
I haven't seen the larger engines in anything other than 19, 29, 35 ...........
