Cox Engine of The Month
Me and my .010
Me and my .010
I always liked miniatures. I went from Lionels to HO to TT to N and finally to Z trains.
I loved and still love the Pee Wee .020 and was ecstatic when the .010 came out. I used mine first on a control liner. I scaled up the plans for Riley Wooten's Guided Missile from a 1959 MAN and flew it on 15 ft lines. What a hoot! Next I designed and built a little all balsa FF called the Glomphus Wog. It was a great little small field flier. Finally I put it on a single channel Top Flite Schoolboy and flew many, many flights on it. I read about Cox sending dealers .010 tie clips and so I built my own. That's where my little .010 has happily retired. I don't know how many hours I had on this little gem, but it sure deserves its rest.

very nice craftsmanship on the tie clip! That picture of you in the hobby shop sure brings back memories of (a much younger me) looking over all the different models and paints, then just purchasing a new prop or glow plug. Hint....you ought to submit that tie clip pic for the engine of the month, when January's contest opens up!

The big Guided Missile - this ship had a triangular (actually trapezoidal) airfoil.Cribbs74 wrote:That hobby shop is too cool! Too bad they don't look like that anymore.

TeeDee .010 tie clasp
That really brings back memories! My Mom worked at Cox when they opened in Santa Ana in the early sixties. They gave their employees the new models when they were released. One day she came home with the tie clasp made by cox. I was so proud to wear it to church! I haven't been able to put my hands on it but I'm still looking. RIP Mom. Scott

Great photos! What are the signs with Marsh Wheeling on them in the 1961 photo?
And what brand in your fingers, Lucky Strike or Chesterfield?
I also had guns and rifles in my little work area...What is the upper rifle?

Re: Me and my .010
Marsh Wheeling signs are the lids of open cigar boxes. The boxes had redwood sides (covered) and cardboard tops and bottoms. My uncle smoked them and saved the boxes for me. They were my standard storage boxes; I still have a few. Back them I smoked Camels (no filters on Camels back then). The top rifle was the remains of a Stevens Visible Loader pump. The bottom rifle was a Mossberg 140 K clip fed bolts action with a Weaver B6 scope. I got it when I was 14 in 1957.

Re: Me and my .010
Thanks
I still smoke cigars, my small parts and some engines are stored in these boxes
I miss my Stevens 20GA Pump, best dove gun I ever had
HiJack over....now back to our regularly scheduled Cox .010 thread
Still wish I had made the tie tack out of the only Cox TD .010 I ever had. Gave it away to a nephew before I realized (here on CEF) that they were praised possessions (and expensive!)
