Paasche air brush

Paasche air brush
I had one once, worked great. Lost it. Bought a cheap Harbor Freight unit recently, trash.
Anyone use one of these? Advancements over the last 40 years? Recomendations?
Thanks - Bob

Re: Paasche air brush
I have a few airbrushes and have found that the cheap ones are not the "bargains" they seem to be. Adjustment can be a bit hit and miss but once set (and this can take some fiddling!) they work OK but not brilliant.
I have one that I use for sand blasting - that was cheap and I have been pleased with it.
However, my best two are IWATA Neos. I have a gravity fed and a side fed one. I originally bought two of these for a "scale modeller" pal of mine (picked them up when I was in Chicago one year). He raved about them and loaned them to me to try. They were excellent and I reluctantly returned them but picked up two on my next visit. (They are cheaper in the USA than the UK).
However, the IWATAs are expensive.
For spraying things like the steam engines I build with special metal paints (anti rust, heat resistant), I uses a cheap plasticky Badger that has a glass jar attaching to it and I get very nice finishes.
It is difficult to recommend a tool like an airbrush. It does depend very much on what you are trying to achieve and personal preference. Some of the cheap ones are a waste of money but some produce outstanding results in the right hands.
There is a wide variety with each one - nozzle size, adjustability ........... it goes on. I was lucky enough to be able to borrow and try.

Re: Paasche air brush
My Brother just gave me this last week. I've never used one.. so I don't know much about it. I've seen these at craft stores like "A.C. Moore" and "Michael's". This is a cheapy.. The Paasche systems are a lot more expensive.. but usually include a compressor.
Re: Paasche air brush
I had one just like that too, simple and easy to use. Like Ian I used it to paint model locomotives and rolling stock. I might just find one of those. My son is giving me a very nice oil/water free compressor. I always used a cheap one or two HP Harbor Freight job.

I have one of the cheap ones 20.00 Never tried the aerosol can us it with comp. 25 PSI its ok for a starter kit , thinned dope is a must and that changes the color and the adjusting is somewhat . But gets the job done . If you have never used one u mite want to start out cheap to see if you like it , my was from HL/ they had some nicer ones with comp. for around 159.00 that look better . Eric

Hi Eric, I just found this one on ebay for fifteen bucks and change. New but never used. For my needs, it will do just fine.
