Re: My New Career !!!
Aw...I tried that once, not counting bike trips when I came home pretty scruffy, but I don't think I'm one of those guys who looks good with a beard !!
I DID enjoy my day at Tailwinds: spent most of my 4 hours learning how to NOT crash the cash register/credit/debit card/computer, and running inventory sales from the previous 3 days. This stuff might not seem like much to other people, but it tightens me up like I'm defusing a bomb.
That, and my near-vacuous knowledge of all that good Model Airplane-Car Lipo Battery/Car Motor/Chargers-that-MIGHT-not-burn-down-your-house are the areas where I really need work, so Mitch (the shop owner) will probably be getting a lot of calls for a while.
Arm-twisted one of my friends into buying an RTF foamy Champ like the one I love to torture, and demo'ed/sold one of those little Proto X Quad copters.
And...more up my alley...had a guy come in for supplies to restore some battered, no-name R/C trainer for his kids, and think I got him on his way.
The sole control line model they have is a Dewey Bird, and once I'm more settled, I intend to take in a 1/2A plane to demonstrate it's controls and general stuff...and let it be know that I'm interested in attic/garage carcasses of same.
Only had one borderline-obnoxious dude...a Train Guy who was determined to sell me an N-gauge Boxcar for 5 bucks. After having my personal space messed with for a couple minutes, I changed color and told him I'd take it if he'd give ME 5 bucks...so he shifted his attention to Patty, and I went on with my inventory. May have to get me a 30" dowel to enforce my no-fly zone.
Also got a stab of guilt as a guy came in looking for the On-Consignment, finished Spacewalker that I scarfed-up last week (I needed another plane like another hole in my head, but was all messed up after watching that guy fly his control-line Spacewalker at Buder Park a couple weeks ago).
Anyway, I'm back there next Wednesday...spreading cheer and good will...AND gearing up for the holidays !!!!!

Surprising how much stuff in that hobby shop is not in your comfort zone, isn't it. Retail is hard. Business is complicated. And then a damn train guy always walks in.

Well, I pretty-well knew I'd be out-gunned on a lot of this stuff. My flying buddie, "Mr. Electric" Al Painton tried to help me understand a lot of this stuff several years ago, and it just wouldn't go into my simple brain.
So, Mitch will get a call !
