Cox Engine of The Month
Anyone ever heard of Hasbro's "The Great Gassers"?

Anyone ever heard of Hasbro's "The Great Gassers"?
I found an old Hasbro TV commercial for some interesting little fuel powered cars called "The Great Gassers" on You Tube.
I've never heard of, or seen them before. Anyone here have any experience with them or any pics, info, or know who made the engines? Google searches haven't been much help but I did find that they were powered by an .027 and I found one little thumbnail pic but it re-directs to a bad link.
Here is a copy of the thumbnail pic. The letter Font looks the same as what Testors used on some of their cars. But I've never heard of a Testors .027.

I think this is the engine, made by Cameron? Looks like a Cameron. The photo is from Marks .049 Collectors Group.
I think the story is the cars were not sold and the engines destroyed.

Thanks for the reply. That is an odd but interesting looking little engine. And yes it does look like a Cameron. Were they still around in the mid 70's?crankbndr wrote:I think this is the engine, made by Cameron? Looks like a Cameron. The photo is from Marks .049 Collectors Group.

I also found this E-Bay link,

Went for a good chunk of change.

I did a Google search for a Cameron .027 engine and found this,

You are right crankbndr, According to the above linked post, Hasbro decided not to go through with the production so they destroyed the engines and cars. But there were a few survivors. Too bad they never made it to production, they look like neat little cars.

Too bad they didn't get sold, they would have been fun toys.
Kids would've probably started placing bets that their car was faster than someone else's car...

Remind me of the "air jammers" my brothers and I had in the 80s. We ran the wheels off those and wore the air motors out entirely!

Whoa! Those are Mustangs! Man I wonder how hard it is to find one of them. The track and everything is cool. I need one to display with my '71 Mach 1!

Re: Anyone ever heard of Hasbro's "The Great Gassers"?
There seems to be some misinformation floating around on these things. They were made sometime in the early 70's not 1961 (note Mustang & Challenger versions) and they were produced and sold, (see production packaging) although probably not very well. I believe I remember looking at one of these in the clearance bin of a local department store as a kid. I'm pretty sure it was a Hasbro and I remember looking at it for a while as my parents shopped. I remember having the impression that it and the engine was pretty cheesy compared to Cox and Testors products that I was familiar with.

I like the part in the video where the kid puts it right next to his ear to tune it. That track would be an oily mess real quick.

Thimble-Drome offered a similar track, I think two different times?

Just makes the racing that much more fun as the cars slide and bang around!

Yes, it was an over sized Slot Car track and they sold the track separately as well as in a package deal with two Corvettes.Mark Boesen wrote:Thimble-Drome offered a similar track, I think two different times?
