Cox 049 Delrin Back Plate Collection

Cox 049 Delrin Back Plate Collection
Here is my collection of 049 Delrin back plates. As far as I know I
only need one more to have a complete set of those that actually went
into production, a first version clamp in type in white Delrin.
I know that a blue horseshoe version was made but they never
went into production. If anyone knows of any other variations please
chime in!
Here is the complete collection.
The first were made of aluminum and later Delrin.
They were clamped between the case and the firewall.
Used only on the Avion Shinn.
It is one of these in white Delrin that I think I need to complete the collection.
The next version is commonly known as the "postage stamp" back plate.
Believe it or not, the red one here was the most difficult for me to find.
It took me over 2 years of searching to find it! Are they that uncommon?
Next came the "postage stamp" with tabs on the sides. These were produced
in white, red, beige, grey, and cast aluminum. As far as I know grey was used
only on the Sandblaster car, cast aluminum on the Spook airplane and Spook engine.
Last came the "horseshoe" back plate. There were several colors and variations
produced. Colors were white, red, beige, grey, orange, and black. Some were
made in red without the 4 holes for mounting screws, these are somewhat
scarce. According to the Cox Model Engine Handbook only about 6,000 were
made. Black versions were produced with the standard metal reed retainer and
later with the separate reed carrier piece. The SureStart 049 came with the
matching grey choke tube.

Re: Cox 049 Delrin Back Plate Collection
Nice collection. I believe the red horseshoe backplate without mounting holes came off the Fokker Tri-plane. The engine I had it on also had a W filament glow head.
Re: Cox 049 Delrin Back Plate Collection
Thanks for posting your collection iamplanecrazy2.
I wasn't aware or the postage stamp without the tabs.
The only ones I dont see, are the KillerBees, but
they weren't regular product engines, so my point is pfft.
Nice collection.

Re: Cox 049 Delrin Back Plate Collection
Thanks fellas!
You are right Bob!
The Killer Bee has the red horse shoe with the separate reed carrier.
That brings to mind the cast case grey back plate with the red reed carrier.
I have both of those already, just didn't put them in the collection.
I'll post some photos of those later.

Here is the red horse shoe with separate reed carrier.
In my previous post I was mistaken about the grey back plate.
The same back plate is used with the die cast case and the
Sure Start. Only the reed retainers are different.
