You know you found a good company when..
So, I ordered my parts from Cox International on Nov 4th. Over 3 weeks ago. At no fault of theirs, Canada Post decided that they will loose my order, or delay it ( I'm not 100% sure.. maybe both). I sent CI an email just letting em know its been 3 weeks. Next thing you know, i got an email with an apology and my order re-shipped! What a class act!
Also, update on the P-51:

Come again?
Re: Canadian Variant P-51 Build
I belong to a costuming and movie fx forum. I am currently building a 6.5 foot tall costume of one of these. a method of organization i use to track my progress is with these colour coded pictures. for planes its not needed, but when dealing with 40-60 pounds of electronics, fibreglass and metal... its much needed

(A bit like drinking)

Ha ah, i mean no offence man, but im in school to be an engineer! ITS WHAT WE DO! notice my sig "Drunk Science" (ok so maybe thats a bad combo), but working sleep deprived is what i do XP I looked over my work from last night, in fact, its better then teh first half of the wing XP Now, on tomm i need to pick up some 1/4" x 1/4" basla sticks. my kit only came with enough for half the wing... this will not do!

lol I always work tired too but sometimes regret my work.
I suppose when tired you will make those "bolder" moves that may kill teh model or enhance it.

I learned something new today, not only were there Canadian P51 pilots and planes, but an American RCAF pilot took the first aerial P51 victory. Vey strange, on the other hand I think quite a few Americans volunteered to help those who were fighting already since 1939 (RCAF) (RAF)
Shell Shock, I hope you took my jesting in stride. For what it's worth my entire family is Canadian on all sides. I was the only American born sibling in my immediate family. I too have a great respect for Canadian military and have family members who served in Canadian regiments back to WWI.
We probably should get back on track though.....sorry for changing the subject.
In WW2 the RAF had an entire squadron (known as The Eagle Squadron) made up of US volunteers, long before the US joined the war, and even after their country joined in, a number stayed with the RAF until the end of the war.

SS:
Cover the bottom side of flight surfaces first.
For papering, thin any dope you use 50/50, apply the paper with a 1/2" overlap, smooth out the wrinkles with your fingers the lightly mist the paper with water from a spray bottle then let it dry naturally and watch out for an correct any warps that develop.
BTW, it's better to use too much thinner than too much dope.

SS:
Use the thinner manufactered for the dope that you are using. DO NOT MIX manufactuer's brands.
Currently I'm using Brodak butyrate thinner with Brodak buyrate dope as well a Brodak butyrate retarder to slow the drying process. When you order from Brodak they supply a nice guide for the use of their products.
Deviate from the guide and you'll have nasty mess whether you brush or spray on the components used. I've done several planes with an air-brush and that's now my prefered method of application.

Re: Canadian Variant P-51 Build
All great advice re tissue and dope but beware when you get round to applying
colour. If you are airbrushing or just brushing water based paint on to doped
tissue it will wrinkle like crazy. You must apply a barrier coat over the doped
tissue. I use polyurethane clear floor varnish, not sure what it's called on
the other side of the pond. A couple of misted coats will do, then apply colour.
Of course Super Daves butrate dope might be ok without barrier coat but I use
nitrate dope and it sure is not. I like the water based paint for ease of cleaning
my airbrush but as SD says if you use same manufacturers products right through
you should be OK. John

So....
I am a tad high right now.. underestimated the dope XP. but it should be fine. here is the latest progress of the p 51. all structure construction is done! All that remains is the coating and the powered bits. here is what i have:
Long shot of the frame
Tail assembly
Mid
Using the original U line platform, i mounted the servos
A friend in needs a friend indeed, a friend with wings is better
a friend with dope and all the rest, a friend who's RC or tether
Pure Morning?
