Big dilemma with big Cox lot - any takers?
A gent asked if we buy engines and parts. We requested photos, expecting new items. Instead he sent the stuff and it's used, much of it in poor shape.
The zinc backplates are all ok except one. There is a Tarno carb (great shape), a Pee Wee tank, an RR1 tank and lower assembly, a new product engine (sealed) a .049 regular and TD head (new) a Medallion .09 head (new), a Tee Dee .15 (very poor shape), and the rest is used, stuck, cracked, scratched and dinged.
Anyone interested in the lot? Below a main pic and pics of the 4 corners of the lot.

Probably a lot of us. Depending on price of course.
I don't see a ton of money there though.

Yeah I'd be interested in a bit of it.
I've got a spare valve and can give that RR-1 a good home. Also, the tarno carb.

Preferably an offer on the whole lot as I really don't have the time deal with this. One of you could part out what you wanted later. Shipping is around $30 to the USA.
Re: Big dilemma with big Cox lot - any takers?
The shipping is the killer on that one even though I am sure that's what it costs. The Special .15 is the only thing of value to me so I will pass. I am sure someone here will make an offer on the lot.
Give it a day.

Want me to move this to the For Sale/Wanted section?
On a side note, I know Jason is after an RR-1 crankshaft.

Sure, you can move it and I still have to wait what the seller says. I made him what I though to be a reasonable offer on which I can perhaps break even. He paid over $40 to ship the stuff here.
Re: Big dilemma with big Cox lot - any takers?
Did he ship within Canada?

No, from Ohio but included a heavy see-through partitioned box with lid.
Re: Big dilemma with big Cox lot - any takers?
Ahhh, ok. Sorry for the 20 questions. Just seemed like a lot of money for shipping.

As with the others, I'm interested in a few things. If the price is decent I could buy it and split it with others if they want to buy some stuff I'm not interested in. I have no interest in the RR1 parts or the Tarno. I'm more interested in the engines and parts I can refurbish from non-working to working condition. I have enough reedies. The only thing I'm particularly interested in for those is the .020 backplate. Will be able to know more when you figure out a price for it.

I'd be interested in all of it, because spares are spares and you really can never have enough, but the price would have to be right. Is there a ballpark of what you need to get out of it all?

Re: Big dilemma with big Cox lot - any takers?
I wrote the seller and offered him $150, simply out of embarrassment (not sure how we got ourselves into this situation lol) and him having paid over $40 to ship the stuff here
I'll have to see how he responds. If he is ok with my offer I shall see what is offered on the forum and, if that does not at least cover costs, will likely break into smaller lots and auction the stuff off on eBay.
Someone just offered $120 and I sent the reply as above. If the seller accepts we will likely need at least $200 to cover credit card or Paypal fees and an hour of our staff time. This only to break out of this unfortunate situation that we got put into.
Just what I needed in the mail today

Thanks Travis. That works for us but have not yet heard back from the seller.
Re: Big dilemma with big Cox lot - any takers?
OK, Travis, done deal and we have sent you the link to the product.

Is that a Testor's "Pipe Bomb" in the bottom right?

Yes, one or two for grins. I got some OK cubs for grins too. The one in the picture looks like it has actual mountings though, which I have not seen very often.

It does look like a radial mount, but it's actually the fuel tank, they don't hold much. The engine is from the Fly'em Series made in the mid seventies.
Re: Big dilemma with big Cox lot - any takers?
They make good free flight engines. You know, when you don't mind if you never see that engine again.

It is funny, the engine was never a worry with my limited power free flight experience. I was always more worried about the airframe with the dozens of hours involved in it. Even with rubber power I was all about the model if I had more than an hour in it.
At least with RC and CL I have a measure of control over the life of the model.

Pipe Bomb
I've found the Testors "Pipe bomb" engines to run every bit as good as a Babe Bee. They have 2 generous transfer ports and breath well. They were just an absolute pain to try to mount to a replacement plane once you'd destroyed your Fly'em model. The late Testors Series 8000 had a radial rear tank mount & could be easily installed, as could the engine from the Testors Galax hovercraft which had no tank but a rear venturi & needle similar to a Cox product engine. It has the same mounting dimensions as a Babe Bee or OK Cub A. I think people wrote them off due to the mounting difficulty, but they stand up well in performance. (from my limited experience). It's a pity they didn't make the glow head the same thread as a Cox as that may have given owners another option for keeping them flying once spares for the Testors had dried up.
