Day of learning...
I had the opportunity to teach my son two important lessons today.
1. How to launch a rocket:
2. How to sneak into a gated community and retrieve said rocket:

It's great when you can find them... I used to take my 4 kids rocket flying years ago... and we lost a couple.

Growing up we lost a lot of rockets too. A and B engines we could get back, sometimes we would get back C engines, but all the D engine rockets were single use affairs.
Good thing they are generally not expensive, but the engines do add up quickly in an afternoon of fun.

Re: Day of learning...
"Roddie the Romantic" once packed the nose of a rocket with confetti strips that read "Roger Loves Linda" (an old girlfriend) so that when the ejection charge popped the nose-cone off... the little messages would be spread far and wide!
Re: Day of learning...
Saw this in an old MAN issue the other day.

Yeah that was a two stage D rocket. The first launch was one stage. All went well so we decided to try both stages. It took a turn for the horizontal shortly after liftoff. Glad it didn't land in someone's backyard.
