Here's a close-up from the back. Note the fuel pickup on the right.

Did any Space Bugs come with a No 2 cylinder? I picked up a used one years ago and since it had a No 2 cylinder, I assumed it wasn’t original and didn’t even bother to take it apart. But Kim’s new acquisition renewed my interest. So I did take it apart for a look and was surprised to see a domed piston. So maybe it is original? It’s like the parts that Mud pictured except in addition to the different head/cylinder; it has a bell mouth screened air inlet and has only one (bronze) reed. I had never heard of a domed piston before, was that common in early engines?
From the photo Kim your engine looks to be in very nice condition. Like to see another pic after it’s back together.

Hey Al,
The photos of the disassembled Bug are from Mud Hen. I'm gonna try to take mine apart this evening.
I've cleared my calendar for the weekend so that I can wrap up the half-dozen things I've got going (not complaining! been having a lot of fun with the Skunk Works test stand!). I REALLY want to run this thing, video it and try to get Youtube to cooperate with my program!
Here are some photos of mine:

Al, AFAIK, the #2 cylinder is a single bypass used primarily for the Golden Bee.
The Space Bug came out in 1952 as Cox's first airplane engine. It had a two bypass cylinder. Shortly after that, Cox came out with the Thermal Hopper with the same front end but without a tank.
The next Cox engine was the Space Bug Junior, which had a single bypass cylinder. It had less power but better handling...it was a beginner's engine (and my first new engine).
Initially all had the narrower threaded glow plug. I think the wider plugs came out in 1954.
Since all Cox .049's use the same bore, you COULD have an older piston and a newer cylinder.

I have a youtube uploader that converts it to flash, but I quit using it because it turned out crappy quality videos. My Windows Live Movie Maker quit uploading to youtube, but it outputs my edited AVIs as WMVs (actually the same thing, I think). I just let YouTube upload and convert them. It takes forever, but it does a good job. Youtube will accept all of the following:Kim wrote:...I REALLY want to run this thing, video it and try to get Youtube to cooperate with my program!
WebM files - Vp8 video codec and Vorbis Audio codecs
.MPEG4, 3GPP and MOV files - Typically supporting h264, mpeg4 video codecs, and AAC audio codec
.AVI - Many cameras output this format - typically the video codec is MJPEG and audio is PCM
.MPEGPS - Typically supporting MPEG2 video codec and MP2 audio
.WMV
.FLV -

The .049 Medallion used a single bypass #2 also.gcb wrote:Al, AFAIK, the #2 cylinder is a single bypass used primarily for the Golden Bee.

Hey Indra,
All my phone does is let me call people !! Yep...I'm one of THOSE!! I've got several video and digital cameras (part of my problem...they've all got features I've yet to master). SO far, on the pocket-size cameras with the brand name "Flip" have been the easiest to shoot to Youtube, but the don't let me edit the way I like to.
I'll figure it out eventually...in the meantime, gonna try to get some footage that makes me want to get it all out there.
Thanks to you and Rusty for the assistance...it can be tough getting this stuff into my brain!

Oh, I thought you just didn't get it since I have been told by many others including Bernie that Gmail screws things up sometimes. You should be able to go download iTunes for Mac or PC for free from http://www.apple.com/itunes/
Just download the .zip I sent you and then download iTunes, turn up your computer speakers or headphones and enjoy the music!
Try to load videop as you read this!
If I can get the office help to leave me alone, you should be seeing the Space Bug video any moment!
