Re: Food glorious food!
Simplist that I am I love a blend of Campbell's tomato and mushroom soups made with millk and served with freshly-grilled cheese sandwiches.
Great for lunch at our mountain cabin when snow is on the ground!
(Don't care for eggplant no matter the presentation. No way, Jose!)

My favourite mountain food is a cheap burger and poutine from the top of the mountain in Whistler!

Why "cheap" if you can afford to go to Whistler in BC and afford their lift tickets?

No fries either, gimme a 'slaw thank you.

As for tavern food I muchly enjoy a "Phiily Cheese Steak" slatered with fried onions or a "Rueben" with 'kraut" and dill pickles on the side.
This of course with with a frosty pitcher of "Mac & Jack's brewski to split between the frau and myself.

re: Chinese food
Having spent time in China an eaten the food I assure you that you prefer Americanized "Chinese food" prepared for the American palate.
In China, Peking (now Beijing) duck is submerged in GREASE, Chinese chicken is served with crushed bones included, fish soup still has the fish heads included an looking up from the bowl............. And how do you regard food prepared using blood as an ingredient? An how about a tasty rat as a side-dish?
BTW, the absolute finest Chinese food that I've been served was while living in Japan for a year. It has most certainly an "Americanized" version which seemed to suit the Japanese very well as it was very popular/.

BINGO! If I were on death row that might just be my choice for part of my last meal. Except I like mine with white cheese. The Philidelphians use Cheese Whiz.SuperDave wrote:As for tavern food I muchly enjoy a "Phiily Cheese Steak" ...

Re: Food glorious food!
Asian food.....definitely one of my favorite things. Did a stint in Korea, ate some crazy things, but enjoyed it all. They love fermented food, now so do I. Silkworms in a cup, that caught me off guard but, it was actually good.
As a child I was not allowed to say "no thanks to food" What was on my plate I had to eat, gagging was not tolerated. Served me well as an adult as now I can eat anything! just about lol
I particularily enjoy wild game and all organ meats. Sometimes the beef, chicken, pork routine gets old. Also if they can drag it out of an ocean I'll eat it!
I think food is one of the greatest gifts we can enjoy in life and I plan on getting my fill, Of course I may die of cancer or heart disease, or clogged arteries but, the ride will be worth it. I am hoping all the mandatory excercise I have to do will stave that off.

Had a delicious Marbled rye bread Reuben sandwich at our local country folks deli yesterday. Not a big sauerkraut fan, but this homemade stuff has a bit of a different taste to it. Of course I had to start out with some of there homemade beer cheeze soup . Home cut fries with parmesan cheeze sprinkled on top. (never had the parm cheeze on home cut french fries before).

Re: Food glorious food!
Yep, I knew it was bad for me because it tasted to good. I held off on the free truck stop sized slice of home made raspberry cheezecake,,I would have been pushing my luck. But hey, I did bring it home with me
Kimchee? Gaaak! I have had that,,,once.
Been trying out some of the selections on the menu at the local Thai restaurant, and some of it is really good. But they love to spice things up a bit. I think I melted the hair off of the top of my feet last time.
I can't stand green peas. Like kryptonite to superman,,get them away. Mom always whips up a creamed batch at Thanksgiving and when they pass by my plate or area, I'm leaning waaay back.

Green peas in Campbell's Cream of Mushroom soup served as a sauce with a hint of onion is a T-giving stardard with our family.
No so big on creamed onios though. (Gassy)
Wow, now getting enthused about Thanksgiving with the entire family. (BTW, I'm the patriarch)

It's not for everyone, I love it. I too had a hard time getting past the smell and the thought of eating "rotten" food. I got over though.

Ron:
You might want to consider that in some corners of the world lacking refrigeration eating "rotten" food is made tolerable by adding hot spices to cover the stench.
Very common practice in the hotter areas around the equator in fact.
