WTB OS LA25 set up for C/L

WTB OS LA25 set up for C/L
Used LA25 with a C/L venturi. Anyone got one that runs good? I'll probably have to save up funds, but I'd like to buy one in the next 6 or 8 weeks for my Skyray.

Re: WTB OS LA25 set up for C/L
Rusty I gave up finding any good used for less $$ seems folks with them know they are popular for speed limit combat planes
On Ken's advice I am going to buy two of the ASP or Magnum 25 that are basically the same engine at about $50 each
converting to C/L is fairly easy and there are instructions with part numbers at aeromaniacs and flying lines web sites

I have one. Would love to trade for a Fox .25BB
It's an RC version, but in excellent shape.
Edit: nevermind it's a .25FP

I've been looking for a couple 25LA's also, they are hard to find. For the Skyray, the 25FP and LA's will work great. My youngest son has two both with 25FP's. The Enya 25SS is a little better in my opinion, but even harder to get.
I want them for speed limit combat and NW B-Proto speed racing. We have a huge RC Expo and swap meet in a couple weeks, I hope to find some there.

OH, the ASP and Magnum 25's, is there a model that's better than the other. Like the Magnum 25XLS vs. the XL?

More than likely, Rusty wants to use the LA for stunt. While I use it for combat, it works terrific as a stunt engine equally. The ball bearing .25's are going to take some taming to work properly not to mention there's a larger weight penalty with the ball bearing engines. Aside from the Fox .25 bb which I believe is the lightest production ball bearing engine made currently. Ken

Re: WTB OS LA25 set up for C/L
The best source for this topic I've had was Bob Hunt, he listed the engines in this order,
Enya 25SS, OS 25LA, and OS 25FP. This was when I was talking to him about 25size planes like his Holeshot and RD-1. I have found that my Enya out preforms the OS engines and can't really tell the difference between the LA's and the FP's. I think the LA's are lighter, though.

Re: WTB OS LA25 set up for C/L
From what I remember most regard the FP over the LA mostly due to the fact that the LA only had 4 head bolts and a plastic backplate.
I think they're both ported about the same.

Re: WTB OS LA25 set up for C/L
Finding LA .25's on Ebay generally command as much money as new ones. A few years ago the LA was available from Tower Hobbies for $52. Those days are no longer. Swap meets around here generally have the LA .46's and I rarely if at all come across the .25's. In regards to the FP, the FP engines have an additional boost port cut into the liner. Out of the Fp's vs the LA's and I'm witnessing these engines fly against each other, the FP's run stronger on the same plane and same prop. Now that being said, this is with the FP ABN version and not the iron piston version. The Fp's also have a fully supported bushed crankcase opposed to the LA which has two pressed in bushings at each end of the shaft. Ken

Re: WTB OS LA25 set up for C/L
I have an "unmolested" RC FP20 that I would part with.
I actually have 3, but 1 is "slightly molested" in that someone used pliers on the drive plate for some reason
Wrong muffler and intake though...on all 3.

The RC version engine shows up on the 'bay frequently for about $35. That's about what I am into each of these.

I do like the FP's for the metal backplate, that's for sure. We have raced 15LA's and FP's against each other and the FP's are faster and are better with hot restarts, my opinion. FP's seem easier to come by, too.
Phill- I'll keep you in mind for a 20FP after I go to the swap meet. I want to save my airplane money for that right now. I've found a few deals lately, but don't want to pay shipping if I don't have too. I seem to collect the FP series.
