Re: Af/x cars!
That's right Mark!... a 1962 Chevrolet Impala black & white... I have chrome "tri-power" air-cleaners in the package for the imaginary "409"!!! They were to be inset into the hood! I bought blue and white 12V mini lamps from Radio Shack that I had planned to install too. Headlights and a blue dome for the roof!
Re: Af/x cars!
I started collecting Hot Wheels cars again... with the emphasis on American made muscle-cars of the 60's... I have 25-30 so far. Impalas, Chevy II's, Nova's, Chevelles, Camaro's, El Camino's, Vette's, 442's, GTO's, Riviera's, GSX's, Thunderbolt's, Fairlane's, Galaxie's, Mustang's, Chargers, GTX's, Superbird's...
Hey.. they're only a buck apiece. Once I started collecting a year or so ago... I couldn't stop! I actually have over 50 cars... but some are 50's era and some are 70's era... and some are foreign sports/race cars.. some are hot-rod trucks and some are "Matchbox" (now made by Mattel) I have a few very old Matchbox series miniatures made in England by Lesney.

Hi Roddie
I know what you mean by can’t stop. I am a seriously compulsive collector. I can’t seem to have only one of anything lol. Have you seen the Hot Wheels Vintage Racing series that came out about three or four years ago. Thirty cars in the series and all replicas of actual cars from the sixties and seventies.
I had a 76 Ford Falcon coupe when I was younger, basically an Australian version of a ford torino. I traded that on a Pontiac firebird. What a pig to drive at speed, lot of front end float, scary. So I bought a model of the ford but I couldn’t stop there could I.
I also had motorbikes when I was young, still do actually, so naturally that kicked off a bike phase, models and real
plus boats
There’s planes around somewhere
I have to stop I have to stop I have toooooo stopppp. Nah just one more won't hurt

Wow, seven motorcycles in the basement. Now that's a collection! You have taken toy collecting to a new level

Re: Af/x cars!
Trouble is that's only half of them and it's not the basement, it's the kitchen lol

That's pretty neat. With seven motorcycles in the kitchen, there is no doubt that you are the "King" of your castle. I would also comment that not everyone could pull off seven motorcycles in the kitchen, but somehow yours look like they belong there.

Re: Af/x cars!
Nice collections Dave!!! I've seen the Australian Falcon XB HW car (recent release).. Is that what you drove? I was unaware of that HW Vintage Racing Series.. but it seems similar to what I have been collecting. My collection is random though.. and not a "series". Remember how the tires could come off the axles on the originals? Choking hazards prompted a re-design.
Over the Holidays; I saw a blue 67 Camaro (like my very first HW car!) at a toy store in a mall. Why I didn't buy it.. I can't say. It was a "frugal moment"... and I was Christmas shopping for my wife.
Here's a photo of a green one.. but the one I saw was the original blue like I had.

Re: Af/x cars!
Blue 67 Camaro, If I see one here I'll get it for you, have HW cars quite cheap down here.
Here's a pic of the coupe. Nostalia says I miss it, petrol price reality says no way lol

I can certainly understand the fuel thing.. but if you can afford to keep it... the occasional blast is sooo worth the adrenaline rush! Was your Austalian Falcon based on this car by chance? (I saw this car while on a band-gig a few years ago in Maine/NH)
Re: Af/x cars!
According to a book I have "A History Of The Ford Motor Company In Australia" when Ford Australia wanted to do a coupe version of the new XA Falcon range due for release in 1972, Ford America suggested they might cut costs by producing a short wheelbase version of the Torino. They did a quick model but the reduced front overhang meant the car didn't look right and was rejected. In the end they used the Falcon sedan floor pan and front metal and designed a new mid and rear section. It's here that I reckon, although being a new design, the Torino influence is plain to see. They went out with a bang too. There was no coupe in the new XD range being designed and they had 400 body shells left over. Edsel Ford, Great Grandson of the founder, suggested they do a white and blue paint job race replica. Released in 1978 it was called the Cobra and they sold out quickly and are now very collectable and quite valuable.
Here's the model Torino I was referring to, 1970. The aussies were over there in 68 - 69 so the 70 Torino would be there for them to evaluate

Did Mad Max drive a Falcon in the first movie?
p.s. Mark, What you don't have your blue Camaro from childhood, lol?

Re: Af/x cars!
Hi Mark Yes he did. I have all three Mad Max Movies. My son likes them too
I went to a big store today that sells Hot Wheels looking for a blue 67 Camaro for him. Went through a huge bin of them but them couldn't find any. Found three for myself though lol

Hi Dave, Thanks for looking for a blue 67 Camaro for me! That HW Falcon XB is the one I mentioned seeing recently.. and in a few different colors too. The "orange" is pretty wild! HW cars up here in Rhode Island average around $1.00... so they don't "break the bank"... and I was in the habit of buying 1 or 2 per week for awhile.
Mark, That's the car man!!! Great that you've kept it all these years! They were "Matchbox" KILLERS... and no doubt; caused Lesney to create "Superfast" Matchbox vehicles, to compete with sales... and then there were the "Johnny Lightning" cars!
Here's a few from my "HW Ford" collection (the Matchbox 60th anniversary Mustang GT/CS "California Special" I just couldn't resist buying!)
A pair of "68" Shelby GT500's
and one of my favorite Chevy's... a "68" Camaro Copo SS
No telling how many pairs of "D" batteries I went through as a kid, playing with my "Supercharger" race track with the baked curves!!
Roddie
Re: Af/x cars!
That California Special is one neat little car. Never seen those down here.

Re: Af/x cars!
Sometime in the mid 1960's I had a battery-operated tabletop raceway... It was a small 1-pc. molded type of thing.. maybe 16" x 20" in size.. I think there were 2 lanes with "slots" and channels running below the slots with continuous-loop compression-spring-drives powered by 2 motors underneath, for the "non-powered" cars. I think there were 4 cars.. about an inch long, and you could run all of them at once if you wanted. The pins on the cars fit in the tracks' slot like a normal slot-car.. but would also engage between coils in the drive-spring loop. When you powered-up the track; the motors turned the springs to advance the cars. I remember the track being a yellow-orange color.
I did a quick search for web photos, but couldn't find anything.. and I don't remember the manufacturer's name.
It was very similar to this "Kenner" set, but the cars and track were smaller.
