How utterly cool is that!!! Anyone interested will be glad to know; that slot-racing is alive and well in my neck of the woods!

Re: Toy Hobby...the place of dreams!
not so much at my house, the track now days is basically a large table to set R/C planes on...I'll probably get it cleaned off for a race or two this winter. Here's a pic several years ago:
Re: Toy Hobby...the place of dreams!
Wow, nice track. Mine were just basic. I had lots of fun with the little ones at home. But the ones we ran at the hobby shop were larger scale, like maybe 10" long. That's a guess, I was smaller then too. I had a blue '67 GTO. My racing buddy had a Chaparral Renalli, I believe.
If you haven't clicked on "Tools of the trade" yet, take a look. I had no idea!
Thanks for posting that, Mark.

Ref. TOY HOBBY CENTER
Hi Mark,
Our paths may well have crossed. In the mid 60's I did slot cars, used a Cox controller. Toy Hobby and a track on Main St. just east of Baken Park, its a paint store now. I rewound those Mabuchi motors, both lg. and sm. with larger wire and fewer turns. Sold a large one to a kid (maybe you) and he had the right gearing - he was unbeatable.

Re: Toy Hobby...the place of dreams!
Hi Rod,
I was kidding, I was a just little kid then, but did make it down to Toy Hobby for several Saturday mornings on the yellow Tub track.
I heard that track is still floating around the Black Hills, owned by a private individual.
We ran Aurora T-jets (H.O. scale) I got a couple cars from Toy Hobby, a light yellow Chaparral and a light blue Ford J, got some white silicone slicks for the cars, funny how you remember stuff like that, yet got to stop and think what a birthday or anniversary date is?
Several years ago I had gotten pretty heavy into T-Jett 'Fray' cars (they're really big in the KC area) and it's amazing how fast you can make those cars!

Re: Toy Hobby...the place of dreams!
When I was a young boy we ran 1/24 scale cars on tracks like this one only not as fancy. The hobby shop we went to had a road coarse and an oval.
There were other tracks close enough that a short drive would get you there. The track had Saturday night races that were packed. Me, Dad and brothers ran for years even building chassis and motors in the drive for more speed. I started driving, discovered girls and that was the end of that. It was not long before the tracks were gone.
About eight years ago I found a track that was a two hour drive and started again with my son, the cars were much faster, the top class cars were a blur and a few burned on the track from too much motor. We would drive the two hours and make a day of it, started building and tweaking again, after about two years one trip up found the track closed down.
This track is in Vegas, wish I was closer. Great hobby, had a blast.

These were the cars that ran 100+ actual speeds, winged body that catch the air for downforce. They were a blur on the track.
This car RTR is over 500$
