Kim and Wayne and Carol Ann's Excellent Veteran's Day Adventure !!!
Thanks to my Uncle Wayne's careful perusal of ALL the local papers, I found myself attending my very first Barn Auction, in hot pursuit of two "Wen Mac Model Airplanes" !
A great Veterans Day out with my Uncle and Cousin! And...two new arrivals to the Skunk Works !!! Against only one other bidder, I managed to get them for a total of 20 bucks.
The "Wen Mac Model Airplanes"...Two chrome Aracobras, piled unceremoniously atop some athletic gear. These versions allowed the pilot to be ejected in flight, so both pilots and canopies were understandably missing. Both planes' wing/fuselage attachments are tight, indicating little or no flight time on their old airframes.
Ladies and Gentlemen...Elvis has LEFT the Aracobra !!!
Looks like, on later Aracobras, Wen Mac omitted the bellcrank enclosure like the one on my earlier plane. There are also pins that limit the bellcranks throw, while a removable "stop" was used on the older Cobras.
Pieces of dried, rotted daycron, wrapped around the prop shaft, bear silent testimony to someone's long-ago Christmas Afternoon frustration !!!!

Haha, I hope it wrapped up and stalled before it flew over center and hit the kid.

Thanks Ron! I manage to have a pretty good time with this stuff...even as my poor uncle is forced into offering a smile and "charity chuckle" while he tries to find the humor in my humor...Cribbs74 wrote:You crack me up Kim!!!

I really liked the 'cash and carry' aspect of the auction, with no shipping charges or waiting, but a guy can only sit just so many ways in one of those metal folding chairs...and I explored ALL of them by the time the Aracobras were brought to the table...
