Cox Engine of The Month
It's time! (Winter Project)
It's time! (Winter Project)
I paid $650 for this bike a couple years ago. I had just finished restoring a 1966 Honda CL77 when this one came along. It's a 1974 Triumph Trident, 750 CC's and just shy of 60HP.
The engine was in a billion pieces in boxes and it took me 8 months to find the correct pieces to put it back together. To compound the problem the Piston had let go in the #3 cylinder taking the crank rod and piston/piston liner with it. As soon as I finished the engine I put it back in the frame and loaded it onto the moving truck heading to Oklahoma. It's sat ever since.
So my Co-worker just bought a 1972 Triumph Bonneville which has rekindled the fire. I had him over last night to help me pull the engine back out of the frame. I plan to strip it down the rest of the way and send it off to the powder coater.
More to follow!

What is that other little jewel in the back corner? Its covered with pool toys, boxes and dust.
It looks like another Triumph, maybe a Spitfire.

Ha!
Yeah it's sad with all the pool toys on it. It's a 1958 MGA, supposed to look like this.
The boxes are for sending stuff to you guys. Which reminds me... Kim, PM me your address I have something for you.

You should have seen the engine Ian. It looked like someone tossed a grenade in the sump.ian1954 wrote:http://www.classicbikes.co.uk/photo23.html

I am pretty good at finding deals. The one you posted has the UK spec "Breadbox" tank on it. For some reason you guys figured us Yanks wouldn't like it so it wasn't available on the export models. I actually like it though, better than mine in fact.

Wow an MGA, thats even better than a Spitfire. Around 1970 I had a older model MGB, it had a tonneau like in the photo. you could unzip it so just your head stuck out.
When it rained I would hold it over my head, not easy when shifting, never had the top up. Really fun car to drive after having large Chevys.

I like the garage as much as I like the bike! Nice and bright without black widows watching me from the shadows and gawd knows what eating the frame. I'm really glad the Triumph doesn't have a toaster tank. Wasn't that a Triumph thing? Looks like a great Winter project.
I'll be doing three kits this Winter to keep the li'l spideys entertained. I'm off to fly the Skyray now.
Seez ya later.

Yeah, tonneau covers are great! They keep the inside clean and light rain out. Much more convenient than putting the top up and down.
I had an MGB when I was 16 and went through 4 MG Midgets in my 20's. one of them I did a stage 1 conversion on the engine and installed a Datsun 5 Speed transmission in it. The car was totally transformed and was a pleasure to drive on the highway instead of the usual 4200RPM at 60 mph.
The early pre-70's MGB's were very nice. Did you have a padded or steel dash? My Father owned an MGC for a while. Beautiful driving car.

Not many widows, except the Cox kind. I do have a buttload of Brown Recluse though. They squish just as easily as regular spiders. I have lot's of Lizards that run around in there as well. Suits me just fine.RknRusty wrote:I like the garage as much as I like the bike! Nice and bright without black widows watching me from the shadows and gawd knows what eating the frame. Yeah the early US Tridents had the toaster tank. Let us know how you like the Skyray!
