Looking for Leonardo da Vinci Glider Plans or Kit
My kid needs one for a school project, and there doesn't seem to be much out there. Maybe someone has a kit on hand that can overnight? Or maybe someone has some plans. We'd like it to have a wingspan of maybe two to three feet, to make it more dramatic. Might have to find a scale person to fit in it, know anyone?!
I might just build from scratch, doesn't look too complicated, any suggestions on bending the leading edge wood, such as soaked balsa?

Hi,
Revell made a kit of the Da Vinci glider. Here is a building page, unfortunately in French, but with a lot of detailed pics:

Thanks, google does an ok job translating the page too. Wouldn't climbing into this version make you feel slightly uncomfortable? Maybe a job for prison volunteers?

My son built the "Airscrew" for a school project. The base was foam board; center post was a dowel; uprights and structure were made from bamboo skewers, the sail was poster board and it was painted with Applebarrel acrylics from Walmart. It was 14" tall (there was a size limitation imposed by the teacher).
Since it took quite a bit more effort than the cardboard swords and shields that were turned in, he got 40 out of a possible 30 points. Unfortunately, the sail tends to warp with varying levels of humidity.
It would probably be easier than the glider and could be done with mostly "kid" power (some teachers frown on Dad projects).

That sounds like a good idea, especially if the kit doesn't pan out, thanks!

I almost forgot to put up the result of our Davinci glider, with a Pink Panther pilot
We just drew the outline from the image at the top of the post, and glued cloth to balsa. It was really flimsy but held together with a few supporting strings.
