Re: Control Line & Wind
The C/G on my stunt plane is 16% of the chord(the width at the root). That's pretty radical. A trainer can be as far back as(I'm guessing)33%. So for instance, if you have a 5" chord(guessing again), your C/G might be as far back as 1.6"(33%) from the LE. It will fly level and safe that way. Moving the CG up towards the LE will make it more sensitive for looping etc., and farther from the LE more stable. Let's assume the kit recommended the most rearward setting for a beginner. But you're already a better pilot than most beginners. You can try gradually adding some nose weight, maybe zip tie a nut or some washers around the crankcase right behind the piston. Or buy a weighted prop lug, that's best because the farther forward, the less weight is needed. If you zip a washer to the crankcase, shim it with something to prevent it from galling your engine and fuel tank. I learned that the hard way. I like to hold mine at the C/G and have it slightly tip nose down(just my preference). Avoid making it tail heavy or it will become uncontrollable. And your engine needs to have enough power to carry any added weight. The Golden Bee might be too long for the plane's rotational axis, and is not as powerful as a dual ported engine. You may want to get a more aggressive piston/cylinder for it, like an SPI set.

Re: Control Line & Wind
If the airfoil is not symmetric, or has a flat bottom, (or undercamber,) then aerobatics will be difficult.
True, true.
I was thinking the model in question was the Goldberg model with built up wing, but after going back and rereading post, its the Li'l Jumpin Bean model with built up wing I was thinking of. I'd still think properly trimmed out it will at least loop (or do really tight wing overs) not as good, but much like a Sig Skyray.
take care,
Mark

Hmmm, I think I got my terminology mixed up. Sorry about that. I can do it better than I can talk about it. I should stick to talking about engines.Mudhen wrote:
I think this is backwards. In other words the closer the C.G. is to the leading edge, the more stable the airplane and thus less sensitive. It won't be aerobatic. The farther aft the C.G. (Closer to the center of pressure,) the more maneuverable. (The center of pressure is genearally the thickest part of the airfoil.) The C.G. is measured in percent of LMAC, (Leading edge mean aerodynamic chord - not just the wing root length.) A symmetrical airfoil with 16% is a fairly aft C.G. so it should be aerobatic. (and fun

Re: Control Line & Wind
yup, a bit of weight just aft of cg. start out slow.
I usually go to a tire shop and ask for a couple strips of there stick-on lead for tire balancing. Sometimes they charge for it. it comes in 1/4oz increments with some real aggresive adhesive tape. you can chop then down to whatever size or weight you need.
Great planes markets the stuff,, don't buy that. Tire shop is the place.
Coiled lead weight at a fishing supply store also.

My one came with lead washer bolted to the tip of the wing and that works well.PV Pilot wrote:yup, a bit of weight just aft of cg. start out slow.

Re: Control Line & Wind
Hopefully me and my dad will get a video of it flying today. I will try another loop then and post it.

Well we got a video but I will have to wait to post it. It is too big for our internet usage. Didn't remember to try a loop either.

Re: Control Line & Wind
It might be easier for you to set up a YouTube account and upload your video there, then just send us a link.
Mark
P.S.
I have a Goldberg Li'l Jumpin Bean, that a buddy gave me, after he started it and never finished. Its missing the tail feathers. send me a PM with you address and I'll mail it to you.

Re: Control Line & Wind
You can get a cheap flash drive and put the full size movie on it and mail it to one of us. I'll volunteer. If you like I can edit it and add the nice movie touches to it. I can upload it to YouTube and return your flash drive.
I'll PM you my address if you like. Let me know.

Re: Control Line & Wind
How difficult would a lil satan be to fly? My friend Daniel is coming over and his dad did a lot of control line in his day. His dads version of a trainer is an epoxy soaked flat wing plane. Each time Daniel flies it it goes over his head and wrecks it so I invited him over to try mine. He was thinking about bringing his lil satan over for me to try. Will this plane drill me into the ground?
