All silver late late version TD 049 porting
Took me a while, but I got a semi decent picture of the ports.
Haven't seen pictures of the high cut boost port, so I wanted to share this picture.

Huh, now that's a porting I have never seen before O.O
Are we talkin the same porting that the Sure Start Cylinders use?

I thought that was the normal way for boost ports to be cut in.
I'll have to look at my engines and see if I have an early example, and then see if I can photograph it.

Is this normal???,,,lol. Got this cylinder from a guy up north who flys speed events. He said that port job is a rip snorter, once it is shimmed properly.

Re: All silver late late version TD 049 porting
The short story: "it can be...but not necessarily". Such a mod was most often found in a TeeDee for 1/2A pylon racing using fairly high nitro fuels, turning 22,000+ rpm on the ground. Properly done it didn't go slower, & MAY have even been a small improvement over stock. Improperly done, the engine can run slower...
I have not seen any noticeable gain yet in my very 'limited' reed valve testing.
Good Luck!

You've got to really know what you're doing to properly port an engine. By hogging out the transfer passages like that the amount of flow is definately increased but the velocity is decreased. Plus you're increasing crankcase volume which decreases crankcase pressure, which further decreases velocity. Not to mention the effect on cylinder scavenging these changes will produce. Like Paul said, if not done correctly you may lose performance.
