So aileron and elevator on that little biplane? It is small enough that it should be durable for hard landings and crashes, especially if you fly over rough mow or tall grass. (the grass is padding)

ok phil, it is available as a kit for a low price. Hobby King is also offering a little piper cub which looks nice and is small too. I really like this one
Here, don't know if it is fuel proof,
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__12971__J3_Cub_EP_Old_Timer_ARF_.html
But I still have fun with my little glider. Today I was out and managed to land several times without crash
It is really a fun flyer and you have nothing to prepare before flight, just go out and have half an hour of fun.

These should work

Re: Becoming a RC Pilot - Looping :) -
Order up a laser cut kit and cover it with something that is fuel proof. The problem is Hobby King does not stock kits in the US warehouse so shipping is killer on a single item. If you buy several items together the unit shipping charge is much more reasonable.
But you live in Germany, so that might be quite different.

I just seen it, think it would be good for a Texaco..
Re: Becoming a RC Pilot - Looping :) -
Thank you Travis,
I didn't know these options yet. The balsa Cub looks very good. Is it really ARF or a kit? I mean the price is very low compared to the showed trainer.
the ugly bug is also very cool looks a little bit like the lazy bee.
I am in a finding process.
I would like to have a model which is flyable by elevator and rudder and maybe a throttle control.
Ground offtakes and landings would be fine too.
In the meantime i am looking for some old german models which are designed for cox engines and easy to fly. One is called Graupner (company who distributes Kyosho in Germany) Topsy. The Problem is that these models are quite expensive and collectable models. But with a little bit luck I will find one.
Furthermore I don't want to build a complete kit (do not understand wrong: I like modelling, but I have not enough time due to other projects).
We will see, thanks for your support!

They offer it as both a Kit and ARF.

Hmm, the ARF is interesting. But I did'nt fly ailerion yet.
What do you mean, does any of my Cox Engines would haul this thing from the ground.
I have the following engines available:
Black widow
Dragonfly
RC Bee
TD 0.49
TD 0.20
and some Baby Bee's. I have no experience and I am a bloddy beginner

They should be able to... that being said, these models haven't been tested yet to my knowledge.
Re: Becoming a RC Pilot - Looping :) -
ok,
Phil i didn't see your posts while writing.
Regarding Hobby King, they have a warehouse here in germany so shipping is no problem, but they do not have all models available (which are shown on the international Hp). The other kits come from HK than you have the problem with custom fees and shipping.

This is the Graupner Topsy, a vintage model for 0.49 made from the 60ies to the 80ies:
Follow the Link:

As per my last post this model is a collectable, but was produced very often.
I think every rc pilot started with this one.
It could be used with only one channel for rudder. Or rudder and engine throttle.
Or rudder, elevator.

There is a copy of the Topsy plans on RCgroups.com, I found the link here

There is another copy in the Hip Pocket Aeronautics plan gallery under RC trainers.

Hey,
thanks for the many replies. I don't know if i am able to build the plane just from the plan, but it is helpful anyway.
Here is a lot with some interesting planes, but only pick up
http://www.ebay.de/itm/290877368187?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
I think I will find something. I just have to wait for a good offer.
This Texan maybe? Wingspan and weight should fit and it is made of Balsa:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/151008369453?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
And finally a cox recon with camera!:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/Cox-Flugzeug-RECON-mit-RC-UND-MOTOR-Neu-Neu-/200905083473?pt=RC_Modellbau&hash=item2ec6e04a51
Lazy Bee!!!
http://www.ebay.de/itm/Cox-Flugzeug-Lazy-BEE-Neu-Neu-/200905083386?pt=RC_Modellbau&hash=item2ec6e049fa
I will be on holidays next week, take a look on Ebay.de. There are so many Cox NIB Engines parts lots, like never before

That Texan looks nice Chris.
If you do get it look at utube and read up about flying one cos they are stall monsters particularly on take off.

That junk pile looks very interesting 5 motors, gliders, I presume pickup only so the price is gonna stay relatively low.
Building from plans is pretty easy, especially in today's age of scanners and photocopiers. You can copy the formers and tack them to the balsa with some spray adhesive (low tack or removable) and it is just like building from a print wood kit.
Look at the kit you see for $80, a set of plans printed full size at the office store will cost about $10-$20, ordering wood online you can get enough to build 2 for the remaining $60. The real question is "do you enjoy building?"
I have only built a couple laser cut kits (but not yet an airplane, though one is sitting on my desk to build), and while they are generally nice, there is still the need to do fiddly fittings. The dimensions of the actual material usually slightly varies from the plan.
